Photo of Overturned Forward Pass

This makes sense. Hence it will never happen. Time to jack around with kickoff rules again. MOAR TOUCHBAX!!!

Which reminds me... why the hell are we trying to run back kickoffs to the goal line or beyond. We never get past the 20 when the 25 is automatic now. Hey coach, the rule has changed and you don't have a return threat!

It was a lateral. There was an offensive tackle 6 yards downfield when the pitch was made.

That's the best reason of all right there.

Either it was a lateral and the refs screwed up by calling otherwise and by missing the offensive holding

Or

Of was a forward pass and the refs should have called offensive holding and illegal man down field.

Golden's more of a return threat than we've had in about as long as I can remember. CPJ's comment on the call-in show was that we're not blocking anybody. I think he said "you could have Jim Thorpe back there and it wouldn't work if you can't block" or WTTE.

I was referring to what Paintballer said about what he felt the refs should assume. I felt the idea of blowing a play dead because of assumption is a flaw in the rule, if that is the way the rule is to be interpreted.

Rule 2, Section 19, Article 2.c

I don't feel that a forward pass is to be assumed. The rulebook says it.

With that said, you guys are the ones posting continuously in this thread. Not sure why you're complaining about it. Maybe 10 of the 180+ posts are by GSU people.

Ineligible man downfield isn't applicable unless the pass crosses the line of scrimmage, otherwise it would get called on every screen pass.

I really don't get why you guys are still discussing this, but the above post caught my eye.

Feel free to double check me, but I believe that I recall the rule book says that when the decision is in doubt, it is a forward pass. That is why it was called that way on the field. If they had called it a fumble when in doubt, that would be against the rule book.

I was neither agreeing nor disagreeing with you, I was only using indefinite terms because you were the source from which I was originally quoting, and you weren't too sure yourself. Now that you have clarified that it is indeed in the rule book, I can say, without any doubt, that the rule is bunk, like a few other rules in the book.

It might have been a little better for me to start a thread to discuss flaws in a few football rules than to use this one to do it! Haha!
