GT Football thus far 2014

The main difference is the QB. Tevin was a horrible QB. Vad had great potential but his skill set did not fit PJ's offense and PJ refused to adjust.

This year we have a playmaking QB that fits the offense.

The OL play has also been much better.

wat??? Unbelieveable.

Tevin was not a horrible QB. Vad was horrible even though PJ adjusted his system for him.

Yeah right.

We have run zero plays from the diamond this year...that was just for vad. Just admit that vad sucked and it turns out Tevin was way better. Tevin threw ducks, but he could at least run the offense.

Favorite part about 2014 - Deandre Smelter. I freaking love that guy. Easily the most dependable, clutch player on the team, and potentially our best performance by a receiver since 2007. Doesn't have the beast athleticism of Calvin or Bey Bey... But his performance this year has been just outstanding.

I'll be in the stands early on Saturday for senior day to give that man a standing O.

Agreed, Smelter is a fantastic player who seems to be able to snatch most anything thrown his way. Even better, watch him knock the fire out of corners all day. The corners lose focus on our RB's because they have their head on a swivel looking for number 15 coming at them. In fact I'm starting a new thread

-Vad Lee

Check the offensive numbers and remember the defensive let downs before you comment on Tevin as "horrible".

Since Godsey left the QB's rank:

Josh Nesbitt
Tevin Washington
Reggie Ball

Vad Lee
Taylor Bennett/AJ Suggs/D. Bilbo

Tevin was a Tech Man through and through. I'm sick of people ööööting on that guy. He played as hard as JfN with a much lighter body type and he never quit on his team. Vad quit. No hard feelings toward him, but he couldn't hold a candle to Tevin's toughness. Physical or mental.

I know that Justin is in his first year as starter but where do you see him fitting on this list thus far?

Tevin was a great kid and kept a good attitude

This. Can't fault Tevin for what he couldn't do (fix the defense, raise his athletic ceiling) because he was a good kid that did all he could to win. He represented Tech very well.

This season has been fun to watch. I can't wait to witness JT developing as a QB next two seasons. I lost hope in last year's QB doing anything so I thought his transfer was a blessing in disguise. JT's performance in the Duke game was disappointing but he is young and will hopefully learn from it. Little disappointed the defense could not hold on against UNC but it's not like I expected them too. But the defense has shown improvement $ incentives that game. Two big tests coming up and hope Tech can at least split it, but as long as they don't totally wet the bed I won't be too upset.

Agreed on Tevin's heart and toughness. Plus, he was significantly better than Vad in the areas that we can actually measure statistically.

Tevin: 50.7%, 21 TD, 15 INT, 4.1 yds/rush
Vad: 46.2%, 15 TD, 13 INT, 3.8 yds/rush

I think Vad's a good kid with some level of talent, but why some want to hold on to the mythology is beyond me. As is the Tevin hate.

I think Thomas is gonna surpass Nesbitt in terms of CPJ QB's. If we're ranking them, I'd put JT second right now, with Tevin 3rd in front of Vad.

JT is behind Nesbitt because he hasn't accomplished the same things, but its clear to me JT runs the offense better than JN.

Hindsight is 20/20.

My foresight on J. Thomas has been pretty much spot on so far, but I stopped going to practices.

His ceiling is higher than Nesbitt's, but he'll need wide receivers (Messick and Juene seem to be likely) to fill in for Smelter and Waller (which is a huge undertaking). The offensive line has been good enough every year and I would project that forward.
If Leggett can perform as projected, we're good at B-back
Somebody typically steps up at A-back, but JT's senior year D. Andrews will be the only one that is left that is playing this year.

If the defense sucks, he'll get the T. Washington treatment where most people think he isn't good although he put us in position to win a lot of games (think UNC this year applying to 3 games in one season).

I love for my team to win football games, don't get me wrong. I get plenty pissed off when we don't and my blood pressure spikes every time the other team converts a 3rd down. But a few years back I had to have a serious reality check on what I was allowing to control my happiness for a few days at a time. I came to the realization that relying on 18-21 year olds to win football games in order for me to have a good weekend was downright ridiculous.

Since that fateful night (Saturday after Thanksgiving, 2009) I've been just as happy about the wins but nowhere near as devastated by the losses. Such is the benefit of having no real impact on the outcome of the game.

The thing I love most about football season is who I go to the games with and how much ridiculous fun we have before, during, and after the games. It takes a special kind of person to be a diehard Tech fan and our group has some of the best around.

And sure, winning makes it all the more enjoyable... and in 2014 we've already done a lot more winning than most of us thought we would.

Finally, its hard not to enjoy this season for me. This little guy was born a few hours before Harrison Butker kicked a FG to beat Virginia Tech on 9/20.

Saturday's the last chance to do it again until Fall next year. See y'all there.

As Yoda is to Force, Architorture is to Life as GT Fan. After trauma of Bay Bay missing that pass, he found the lighted path...

This. I was defending Tevin when half of you were crapping all over him. Dude led us to some big wins and was consistently good. He also had a few near comebacks (uga and VT in particular) that were lost because of defense and special teams. He stepped up when we needed him and did a pretty solid job. Obviously not all world, but he seemed to be a good person and a solid player. Also set the record for QB rush yards in a huge upset against clemmons.
