AJC talks GT playoff chances...

win over ugag then f$U would put us VERY close

MB is probably doing a goof but still good PR to be in the conversation w/ one game left on schedule

“The ACC is the weakest of the power leagues,” Edwards said. Even a one-loss FSU probably wouldn’t land in the playoff grid. A two-loss Georgia Tech wouldn’t appear to have a realistic shot.

This dude can't be real. Is he really saying that the ACC is weaker than the B1G (VT > tOSU) or the PAC 12 (UVA within one score of UCLA/ BC>USCw)? Ridiculous.

If we beat the mutts and F$U, I won't really care not making the playoffs.

"... after the consecutive October losses to Duke and North Carolina, who thought Tech would be in the conversation for anything above the Belk Bowl?"

I did. But that's because I know exactly how we lost those games. We've had great games this year, and in my mind I think we're unlucky to not be undefeated right now.

“The ACC is the weakest of the power leagues,” Edwards said.

Based on what? The likely champion of the B1G got hammered at home by a team from the ACC that may just barely make a bowl. We're coming off a year where an ACC team won the national championship, the Orange Bowl (over Ohio State), and freaking DUKE took it to a Manziel-led Texas A&M. We're putting the 2nd most players into the NFL behind the SEC, our players won the Heisman, the Biletnikoff, and a billion other things:

Sure, we're probably not #1, but I'd stack us up against at least the B1G all day every day. Not sure what the heck the Big Texas has done to impress so many people, either.

Edwards works for ESPN does he not?

To finish with consecutive wins over ranked Clemson, top 10 uga on the road, and undefeated FSU along with 2 losses by less than a touchdown each should IMO get us considered. Plus we'd be conference champs.

I guess the biggest issue is what are UGA and FSU ranked after we beat them. If they both completely plummet then it might not look so impressive.

I mean I think the odds of getting in are less than 50%, even if we win out and win the conference. But I don't think being considered is a completely ridiculous notion that should just be discarded. I don't think it's less than 1% like some do.

"The ACC is weak" is a simple-minded argument. It's the kind of thing foolish, intellectually lazy people start parrot after they hear it enough. The committee has a real responsibility here and needs to be better than that. This team started out weak, but clearly improved as the year went on. For the last month we have been wrecking fools. Just look at what we have done compared to FSU to our common opponents. There's a real case to be made for us.

Nice to atleast be in the conversation. This is football played by 18-22 yr old kids....who knows what teams will lose in front of us.

Another thing to consider is margin of victory. Not saying we will but should we beat uga by 14+ that could launch us farther than expected. I don't think we will. Hounestly I feel good about the game in Athens but more along the 3-7 point margin. As for the potential date with FSU I REALLY like that match up. They are a terrible first half team and if we could get ahead and play ball control in the second half we will beat them by 14+

The ACC has the potential to beat the Big Ten, PAC XII, SEC, Sun Belt, American and MAC champs. Along with a 3 point loss to the potential MWC champs in Colorado State.

The only conferences unblemished would be the big 12 and CUSA.

Not ridiculous at all. The ACC has a lot of weak teams.

Yeah? How about the B1G? The PAC 12? You think they have fewer weak teams than the ACC? How many do they have bowl eligible v/s the ACC?

The ACC has 8 (with two more on the cusp)
The PAC 12 has 7 (with three on the cusp)
The B1G has 9 (with one more on the cusp)
The Big 12 has 6 (with one on the cusp)

Yeah. So much difference there :rolleyes:

It's gonna boil down to whether a 2-loss ACC champion Georgia Tech gets in over a 2-loss non-conference champ like Ole Miss or Mississippi State.

We heard a lot of talk preseason about how conference championships would play a big role in selection. Let's see if the committee puts its money where its mouth is.

I have a feeling that UF would make it in before a 1 loss FSU.

Not ridiculous at all. The ACC has a lot of weak teams.

So does every other conference.

The ACC has five good teams: FSU (beat ND, Oklahoma State before QB injuries), GT, Clemson, Louisville, and Duke. One of those, Florida State, appears to be very good. It has four ok teams: Virginia Tech (beat Ohio STate), Boston College (beat USC), and North Carolina. The other five, NC State, Virginia, Pitt, Syracuse, and Wake aren't very good.

The SEC has six good teams: Alabama (beat West Virginia), Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Georgie, and Auburn (beat K State), and Missouri. One of those appears to be very good, Alabama. They have four ok teams: Texas A&M, LSU, Arkansas, and South Carolina. The others, Florida, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, and Tennessee don't seem like very good teams.

The Big 12: has four good teams, Baylor, TCU, K State, and Oklahoma. It has two ok teams: West Virginia and Texas. At this point, Oklahoma State, Kansas, Iowa State, Texas Tech are bad.

The ACC fits right in with those.

Well the CFP folks have shown to be SEC bias already. Not surprising that this idiot Edwards makes comments like that.

We thought that the CFP would solve our problems. But I feel like the new system is even more biased to the SEC. We used to at least have a computer do it. Now it's human judgement and they give bias to the SEC even more.

who cares? I had zero hope or expectation of making the final 4 at the start of season. All that happens from here on out is sweet savory gravy.

OK, to bring the discussion back to potential outcomes for us, if we win the ACCCG and (as many desire) the CFP Committee decides to invite only Power 5 conference champions to CFP, which one of the 5 gets omitted for us to be one of the 4 playoff teams?

For example:
  • GA Tech, ACC;
  • Alabama, SEC;
  • Ohio State, B1G;
  • TCU/Baylor, Big 12; and
  • Oregon, PAC 12.
It would be difficult for Georgia Tech, with 2 losses, to be selected over those other four. Our wins at ugag and in ACCCG would need to be impressive.

of course it would be difficult in this scenario. Not only difficult it would be impossible. Most likely all the others have 1-loss and we have 2.
