Sometimes I wonder if PJ doesn't think the game is as big as WE think it is. He said today, " This game doesn't define our season. " Ok, it doesn't define our season but it sure is THE GAME we want to win every year! He even said that but why do I get the feeling he doesn't see it like we do? Mark Richt for sure takes this game seriously. I don't know, the rhetoric he used didn't give me warm fuzzy's. Maybe I'm over reacting lol.

WE don't really think a single coherent thought as a fanbase. Some number of us want to stop playing them entirely. Many, including some of our more active fonts on this very board, don't even tune into watch the game. We're too screwed in the head about this game to say "coach, you're wrong" when it comes to how he feels about it.

CPJ has correctly identified the problem, and the problem is that this game is in our heads. It's in the fan's heads, it's in the players heads, and its in the coaches heads. THAT is the reason we keep losing such tight games. When it comes crunch time it all becomes mental, and they expect to win, and we f*ck it up because our players start thinking "uh oh here we go again" and screw up on the field.

That's what happened last year, and in about two or three other games where we miss an extra point or god knows what else to throw the game.

CPJ is trying to fix the problem. The game might in fact define our season, but if he admits it, then he furthers the very problem that's preventing us from winning it.

Had the exact same comment and thought. We're going to get our asses handed to us. He's looked at the film and penciled in a loss. The spread is apparently justified. His comments in the past and this year lead me to believe he really doesn't get the magnitude of the game, or if he does he's downplaying what he sees as a sure loss. We lose in either scenerio.

I wish Roof or Hamilton would have just split the radio show and press confrence duties this week. Guarentee you that both get it. Their jobs at GT are directly due to their success against georgia.

I think CPJ saying we had bigger fish to fry hurt the dwags' feelings more than any StingTalk art or other creative expression.

CPJ gets tired of our fanbase acting like it is our superbowl every year. From a coaching perspective, that is exactly what he should do - treat this game like any other.

Bet your ass that he wants to win it as badly as we do. I'm sure he gets tired of UGA fans, and as competitive as he is, you know it pisses him off that he has lost 5 straight to them. You're crazy if you think the game isn't important to him. But he is also level-headed enough to know that it is just 1 of 12 games and that we don't suit up every single game just to get to Thanksgiving week.

You have to view everything from his perspective to understand why he says what he says. He doesn't want to add fuel to the fire over in Athens. He would like to prepare the players to play consistently and his attitude promotes that. No need for them to RISE up for this game because it only causes problems.. I.E. VT/GT 2013. Remember how nervous our players were in the first half?

I really wish GT wouldn't do any of that pre-game quarrel BS.... Guess who it really riles up? The thugs.

maybe you're overreacting? Maybe???

It's true that the game doesn't define the season. For some idiots it does, but it ought not. Does that mean it's not the biggest game of the season? No. It just doesn't mean a season is a success or failure based on the results of the UGA game.

This team and CPJ have given the fans zero reason to think they don't have the mental wherewithal to bring the right attitude to this game.

CPJ is not wrong. One game does not define an entire season, no matter who the opponent is.

It is an important game, but if we lose to UGA, it doesn't make a 9-3 season bad.

The fact that we have a terrible record against UGA in the last decade has more to do with the vast difference in admissions policies between the two schools, and between the SEC and ACC in general.

I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing for a coach to think. It's the absolute biggest game for us, and he knows that- and he's not going to prepare any better or any worse for UGA. Believe me, he knows the implications of a win against the mutts, you could tell that after the 08 game. And he wants it badly.

But it's not the WHOLE season. I know it would suck to lose to UGA, but if we beat FSU, this would still be a heck of a season when no one expected much of anything. And I hate the dwags as much as the next guy.

I think our biggest problem with this game was that while Chan lacked fire emotionally, the players wanted to win so bad it made them play tight. So when PJ got in here all he heard about from every angle was how important the Ugag game was. I think a big part of his goal in saying things the way he does is to keep the team calm and loose. You can't play tight and have a good game. So you have to downplay the importance of the game. He wants them to approach and play this one just like all the other W's all year. There are plenty of people, in or around the program I'm sure, who are playing up this game whether they mean to or not.

In talking about the year I said the exact same thing about this game. If we lose then yes, it will suck. I will hate it worse than losing to Duke or UNC. But, it doesn't mean we had a bad year. Pretty much everyone would agree that we're already well beyond any expectations. I'm as sick of losing to those mouth breathers as anyone. Heck, my dad and I are the only GT fans in an extended family in Athens and my uncle even made the scout team for the dwags back in the day. I KNOW all about hearing about it all year long.

I'm sure PJ gets it now. He probably didn't really get it in '08, but he sure did in '09 and beyond. I'm sure he realizes a win over the Ugag would save a bad year and make him a god in a good year like this one. We are standing on the edge right now. A W over ugag and it's a GREAT year. Cannot be overstated. Wins over Ugag and FSU would be the best year since 1990, easily. He knows.

This game is our rivalry game. I wonder if CPJ had the same attitude about the Army-Navy game when he was at Navy.

He was asked the same question last night on the radio show. He said that Army/Navy was different, because those 2 teams and fanbases fought and beat each other up during the game, and "then held hands and sung each other's alma mater after the game". Then he went on to describe how "folks just don't like each other down here".

He was basically admitting that this rivalry has more bitterness behind it and is on a different level.

He knows the importance of the game...............

one one hand, we hate Georgie
on the other hand, the Georgie game has no impact on our conference that we are trying to win

so, its a divided goal. way too many of you are too eager to see a flaw than to be honest about the split goals and be realistic.

yes we want to beat Georgie desperately and with all our being
however, it does not define our season - which is more defined by our conference results

but if yinz wanna have something to whine and complain about, i guess this is as good as anything. stupid to do so, but go for it you miserable dumbasses

Then he is downplaying the importance which is a sign to me that he thinks we're going to get boat raced.

Secondly, he could have at least said its the biggest game on the schedule every year or something like that, but to compare it clemson smacks of "I won't win that one, but I beat clemson"

I agree. This game is important. I want to win every year like you all do but Championships should be our primary goal. Win or lose, I will always bleed old gold and white...with a shade of navy :)

If I could pick one game to win each year, it would be this one. But I also understand that nobody can guarantee a win, because there are too many unpredictable events that happen during the course of the game.

A coach can be criticized for poor recruiting, poor player development, poor game preparation, or poor strategy, but ultimately the outcome is mostly out of anyone's control. That's why you have to judge a coach the same way you judge any other executive, on the season-long results and the direction the program is heading. Nobody would want to work all year long to field a good team and then be judged on the coin toss.

CPJ is probably as competitive a guy as any of the fans, but he's not going to let himself or his players be judged solely by the outcome of one game.
