CFP Rankings Thread

A couple things; I'm happy Baylor is getting punished for a horrible OOC schedule. Maybe it will work its way to the SEC and they will get punished as well. Second, think about FSU from a non-ACC perspective. They may be undefeated, but they aren't that good. Alabama, Oregon, TCU, Baylor, and OSU would all beat them if they played this weekend. I don't have a problem with where they are because they definitely won't be in the top 4 when the next poll comes out. Mizzou is done. If they win, Bama drops like a rock, and Mizzou will maybe crack the 10. We don't have to worry about them. Lastly, its looking like we'll face Michigan State in the Orange Bowl. I'm not sure how I feel about that. They seem to have a really solid defense, but they also haven't played many good teams. We'll see; a lot can happen this weekend

No way we make the playoff. Not with how little respect FSU is getting. If we even want consideration, we need to DESTROY them

But then we just destroyed an 'over-rated' FSU team that has been on the brink for weeks. We probably drop out of the rankings if we destroy FSU.

This whole thing is a total sham.

Alabama had to come from behind at home to beat a crappy Auburn late, similar to a lot of FSU wins. Alabama struggled against fricking Arkansas. What is propelling TCU? A win against a lackluster Texas? How is beating Texas any better than beating Florida?

FSU has gotten the shaft in this process. I don't we stand a chance whether FSU is #1 or #4, I just don't see how a committee full of AD's is expected to be impartial.

5 conference champs + 3 at large = playoffs.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

you are paranoid. They are DONE if they lose to Mizzou who is what 16?

Not being paranoid, just realizing how biased this committee is. Most everyone, mainly ESPN, are all over the SEC. There is no way in hell, they'd leave an SEC team out of this ööööed up playoff system.
FSU hadn't lost a regular season game in over two years and won the MNC last year. Dropping them to 4th is pretty screwed up. Granted, I don't think they are no where near as good as last year, but dang, they are top dog til someone knocks them off, which will be us Saturday night.

Michigan State's best win is Nebraska. It's obvious that the committee values losing to good teams way too much. If you lose by one in controversial fashion, that's one thing. But MSU got rolled at home by OSU and got beat soundly at Oregon (although they were winning late third).

In my humble opinion....

We need Alabama, Oregon, Kansas state, and Wisconsin to win. That would drop Baylor, arizona and Ohio state. We should leap over Kansas state and Mississippi state. I am not sure what Michigan state is even doing. They have no shot. Why are they even ranked there in the way of the teams that have a shot. Not a stretch by any means.

Oh and we continue our assault on the top teams and beat fsu.

They will if Mizzou wins. There's no way they take a 2-loss non-conference champ who just lost to the #16 team, and there's no way Mizzou jumps all the way to top four.

Most of the whining about bias in this is just persecution complex and/or assuming that anyone who disagrees with you is biased. FSU is number 4 because they have played really poorly; most GT fans think we are going to beat them handily this weekend because of how they looked. They should absolutely be in the playoffs and they are, but they'd easily be underdogs against the rest of the top four so it's at the very least understandable that some people would have them ranked fourth.

There is certainly plenty you can disagree with about the rankings...but it would be just that, a disagreement. There's nothing outlandish or outrageous about any of these.

Maybe it's just a downer after the euphoria of Saturday afternoon, but, guys, the Committee is acting just like the girl who never returns your calls. I've been dreaming and working the permutations as much as anyone, but, it's clear that no one outside of our group considers, or even mentions us in the CFP mix; only as a spoiler. The handwriting is clear and it is only the denial that only a GT fan can sustain that keeps this conversation going. There's no CFP invitation for us this year.

After losing to Duke and UNCheats, no one on this board or anywhere else thought that we would have a chance to break and finish in the Top 10 single digits. A win Saturday night sets a high water mark unequaled by us since 1990. Even if selected, winning a CFP game would have been a very long shot. Perhaps we should focus on Fresh Seafood (4) U and winning the Orange Bowl to complete or fantastic season, reverse the bowl skid, and have a great launch for next year.

As for the Committee, they're just not that into us (yet).

Many of you are not seeing this clearly. We are 11th but in a great spot still. Bama will win they're #1, Oregon will win they're #2, TCU will win they're #3. If we beat FSU we will jump them, zona, Michigan st, and miss state. After that we just need Wisconsin and K state to win and we should be in. Only team you argue other than us is K state and if they really are going to value a conference champion like they say we'll be meeting up with Bama in the superdome.

Disagree completely about FSU. You can't say they wouldn't beat any of the teams in the top 10. Bama is in whether they win or lose because apparently SEC has unassailable SOS. I don't care if we beat down FSU 70-0, GT is not going. This whole thing is so biased and rigged it's absurd. I've about decided it's worse than the BCS was.

They are doing this on purpose. The idea is that they are trying to motivate FSU to want the playoffs because the committee isn't going to take GT under any circumstances and they don't want the predicament of having to deny the ACC a team. FSU wins they are in the playoffs. GT wins and they can say "well FSU was garbage anyway."

This is complete paranoia. If FSU didn't struggle against UF, they would still be #3 easily.

Based on these rankings, there is at least a set path for us to get to the playoffs assuming we jump idle teams or any team who loses other than Bama.

1. Wisconsin beats Ohio State
2. TCU loses to Iowa State.

The playoff then will be:

1. Bama
2. Oregon/Arizona winner
3. Kansas State/Baylor winner
4. Georgia Tech

It feels good to have a set path, however unlikely the second result is. For other paths, we would need to jump a team that wins this weekend like Kansas State or we would need to jump Bama.

I had a big post typed out but the page crashed.

Here's my take:

The 2 - loss teams that are not conf Champs will fall below us if we beat FSU. K State's schedule doesn't match ours (one win over #20 Oklahoma.) Michigan State's resume doesn't match ours (zero wins over top 25 teams.) Mississippi State's resume doesn't match ours (wins over Auburn and?)

We need Wisconsin to win. That knocks OSU out and Wisconsin will stay below us.

We need K State to win for reasons stated above and to knock Baylor out.

The PAC 12 winner goes regardless. If KSt wins, then TCU goes. I think Bama wins and goes but if they don't, it is definitely possible that no sec teams go. That's 3 spots. And if we jump FSU, OSU, PAC 12 loser, Baylor, Mich State, K St, and Miss St, we're in.

So we really just need Wisconsin and K State to win, and we need to beat FSU.

If Arizona beats Oregon, Oregon would still be above us, same if Missouri beats Bama...the would still be above Tech . Sucks
