I've been on the road for work for the last week having stopped at several major airports during the week. Also, one of the work events I was at mid-week was a tailgate themed event where there were close to 1,000 people wearing their team's gear. The number of people that came up to me and said they will be rooting hard for the Jackets this week amazed me. I expected it from fans of teams that are looking to make the playoff, but the hate that all other fans (who shouldn't have any particular interest in this game) have for FSU right now surprised me a bit. Other people have mentioned the same and the Grantland article brands us as America's Team for a day as well.
Given the significance of the game (conference championship, playoff implications in the first year of the CFP), a prime time game, the national attention on Jameis/FSU.....has there ever been another Georgia Tech sporting event where so many people were rooting for us?
I've been a Tech fan for a little over ten years and I certainly can't think of one. Maybe the final four run in 2003 when we were cinderella going up against mighty UConn? Anything else?
