Head Coaching jobs that are now considered a step up from GT.

This is what annoys me. Just because someone is not "on the bandwagon" and does not want to be CPJ's buttboy does not mean that person is anti -PJ.

OK. Call me insane. I have said from the start that I would not be on the bandwagon until he won with his own players and won a reasonable number of bowl games. This year he did that - in spades. This was a GREAT year and he gets mad props from me for it. But it was just one year. Was it lightning in a bottle like Hewitt? I want him to succeed, believe me. I love the offense. But I want to see consistency. One year of meeting my criteria does not erase 5 years of not meeting it. Before this year the jury was still out for me and frankly it did not look good. The jury is still out for me, but now it looks good.

P. S. I've always been told that I am a "hard grader" - both in the military and in academia. This is not an anti- PJ post. I really want him to be here until he retires.
Really? What is your criteria?

Look, I'm not surprised my post puts you on the defensive. Look at what Leach did at Texas Tech. Certainly he did not meet the criteria of those who were "hard graders". They were not satisfied with the overall, just like you.

People like you waited and jumped on him the second they had the chance. Got him gone, just like they wanted.

Your post makes it clear that you will pounce on him the second he doesn't beat UGA. Right?

I was gonna say that you are the cancer, but that's harsh considering you haven't answered the question of what is your criteria.

Good season = Beat UGA

Great season = Beat UGA + Win bowl game

Bad season = Lose to UGA

CPJ has had 2 good seasons including this one.

Jim Hart types always have trouble naming specific criteria, because basically it amounts to 10+ wins every year. Given how few teams meet their criteria, it's easier just to talk in generalities about settling for mediocrity.

On another note, the question of how CPJ would do at a place like Auburn is interesting. On defense, it seems like none of the pundits have heard of a scout team. On offense, I'll posit this data point: in their NYE6 games, Amari Cooper had 71 yards receiving and Darren Waller had 114 yards. Alabama had far more passing yards overall, but much of those yards were screens to players who would be AB's or BB's in CPJ's system.

The only player who definitely wouldn't play in CPJ's system is an old-fashioned drop-back QB. But because of the numbers game, both the NFL and college are putting a premium on rushing QB's.

The reason CPJ won't be hired at a step up is because AD's have little reason to take risks. I view CPJ's system as something like the A's in Moneyball. Baseball had far more mathematical precision compared to football, but Beene was an outcast within the baseball community. And unlike OPS and baseball, no amount of winning is going to really convince critics of the offense. Navy fans told us that "every opponent you have will say they've figured out the offense and then lose to it."

If somebody calls 2009 a bad season, that's a pretty good indicator of how crazy their standards are.

I think he said 2009 and 2014 were the good seasons. Personally, I can put up with a few mediocre seasons in return for a 10+ win season. I was one of the people on his back before the season and CPJ did his best job with his players. Anyone who didn't have doubts coming into the year is delusional or simply accepts Gailey level mediocrity. We had four blah seasons in a row and that can't be argued.

I can see none now as long as our head coach is not a catholic.. that job will aways be lurking though... I think we are back to where we should be.
I agree, he isnt going or looking anywhere. The factories have delushional expectations and less than 9 wins gets you fired. Also, i dont think the catholic job is what is used to be, they have academic restrictions like we do and they cant recruit goons.

Their restrictions are not like ours.
ND restrictions > SEC etal and < GT. Similar to Stanford, they can hide em.

Loss to UGA then loss to f-in Iowa in the bowl game.

Fuggedaboutit

Nope. 2009 was a bad season.

CPJ would have more talent at Auburn. It's full-tard to say otherwise. Heck, you can completely ignore all the recruiting advantages at the barn - you could take all the same players he's had/brought in at GT and take them all to Auburn, and they all stay eligible rather than losing a few per season to grades. Boom, better talent immediately.

Also, the point was that CPJ would have had an easier road at NCSU/UNC than at GT. Never would have hit the recruiting slump that he fell into when he first got here. Is anyone going to say that it's tougher to recruit/maintain personnel at UNC, who gives grades away for fun? Or pretend that NCSU actually has any kind of standard? I'm glad he's here and I think he's glad he's here too, but GT was not CPJ's first pick of schools for good reasons.

At any rate, despite constantly having half the fan base wanting him gone for extremely dumb reasons, CPJ is here to stay.

Why are people still bringing up Jim Hart? Does he still post anywhere? If so, I'd love to see that train wreck.

And anyone who says 2009 wasn't a great season is kidding themselves.

this is the thought process of a little victim...

:bigcry:

This.

Winning COFH is like dating chicks. The more you want it, the less you get. It's mental. The more we devalue that game, the more it enrages them, and the more it gets in their heads, which helps us win.

CPJ gets this.

Maybe I mis-read his point, but he seemed to be saying that PJ could recruit the talent necessary to win it at all at GTech, but wouldn't be able to recruit at least equal talent at a major program that's traditionally easier to recruit to.

I don't think that's a valid argument.

And I agree that everyone should be onboard with PJ. At least at Texas Tech, it was clear that Leach was an utter and complete jerk (like 1000x the jerk that Pelini was, for example).

you totally missed the point.

1. GT can get the talent.
2. GT has a path to the NC
3. GT can win the NC
4. We are back to where we should be.

It would be just as or more prestigious to win the NC at GT than any other school. A GT coach could change jobs because he likes the pretty uniforms of the other team better but not for football reasons.

You make a point on the not-lost players. That is true.

Then you go full tard thinking UNC/NcState > GT. Are you one of those fans that buys recruiting subscriptions?

The state has 4 teams and is raided hard. This state has way more talent.

I suppose we can compare the rankings of our humans and their humans from the last 20 years that show Carolina and NCSt Are easier to recruit. I crazily claim that the game results from when our humans face their humans show that we are actually recruiting better players. Have been for a long time.

yep. these ööööers need to watch Empire Strikes Back.. You must unlearn what you have learned. they have been brainwashed into thinking that only ugag will decide if a GT season is worthy or not..
