Regarding DT's impending free agency, the author states:

2) Demaryius Thomas, WR Denver Broncos

"...At 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds, Thomas is an athletic freak. It seems almost criminal that he was buried in a triple-option system when he played college ball at Georgia Tech, but that simply allowed his stock to drop far enough to land in a perfect situation with the Broncos. ..."

I would argue the triple option allowed Thomas to flourish against single coverage and use that athleticism to the tune of 25.1 ypc and over 1100 receiving yards in 2009.

Yes yes it is.

Brad Rowland is the editor of ATL All Day, the one-stop fix covering the Atlanta sports scene on the FanSided network, and he is a regular contributor to the FanSided.com front page. Brad is a life-long sports fanatic who is a realist, and he lives his life in an attempt to combat every negative stereotype of the Atlanta sports fan.

I'll give everyone three guess to what college this douche is a fan of.

You're right, and that is how Johnson re-recruited him when he was hired and Thomas was looking to leave. Besides which, what goat-herder wrote this piece ignores GT's records with Thomas and the option, and the guy playing QB at the time who, whatever else he could do, couldn't pass.

Stirs the pot but offers nothing much.

Yea, that situation he fell into, with Tim Tebow as the next franchise QB, was PERFECT for Thomas to succeed. :hsugh:

Looking at the 14 games in '09 and 16 regular season games for his nfl years...

'09 with Tech................82.4 rypg, 0.61 TD/g
'10-'11 with Tebow.......39.7 rypg, 0.29 TD/g
'12-'14 with Manning.....77.0 ypg, 0.59 TD/g

Granted most WRs have better college stats, but he made a name for himself by being featured in this offense. Who knows if he's the first guy taken playing elsewhere (possibly with his size and combine 40)?

And another thing. Thomas, Hill, Cone, Melton - none of these guys were big names coming out of HS. And we put all of them into the league. If anything we made Hill look better than he really was. And now we've taken a converted pitcher and turned him into a probable draft pick at WR, not to mention turning a 2* safety (Waller) into a possible NFL-caliber WR/TE.

How many other teams have put 4+ WRs into the NFL the last 5/6 seasons?

Never mind that when Calvin Johnson (mediocre pro, I take it) was asked about the triple, he had a big smile and said WTTE of ...

"Man coverage, baby. Man coverage."

Yeah ... CJ in this offense would have been ... OK.

Calvin Johnson's best year 76 catches for 1202 yards and 15 TDs. DT's 46 for 1154 and 8 TDs. Yeah the triple option was horrible for his numbers.

Bleacher Report is the Wal-Mart of sports journalism.....and that's doing a disservice to Wal-Mart.
