I'm also a little puzzled by this. The media and UGA fans have already dubbed Chubb the best back in the SEC and a Heisman contender for 2015. Maybe I'm biased from seeing our admittedly mediocre DL stuff him all day save one long 1st quarter run. But he does not strike the fear that Gurley did - at least not to me. Chubb is a quality TB with good strength and decent speed. Gurley was a MLB in the backfield with enough speed to take it the distance. Fournette from LSU is a lot closer to Gurley than Chubb is IMHO.
Running behind the OL UGA had this year helped Chubb a lot too.
No doubt their OL helped Chubb a bunch, but he is every bit as good as Gurley. Saying we "stuffed" him except for one run is, imo, wrong.
First drive w Chubb - Chubb had 2 runs for 12 yards each, another for 6 yards, and a 24 yard reception.
Next drive w Chubb - 65 yard run
Next drive w Chubb - 10 yard run and he converted a 4th down run
3rd quarter - Chubb runs for 4 yards and 2 carries on one drive. Next drive Chubb had a catch for 11 yards.
We basically "stuffed" him on the drive to open the fourth quarter, but that was it. Even if you take away the 65 yard run, Chubb still had 100 total yards on 27 touches. That's hardly "stuffing," especially since it was his worst game of the season.
Look at the rest of what he did:
33 carries, 266 yards against Louisville (at the top of the ACC in rush defense).
38 carries, 143 yards against Missouri (~ top 25 rush defense)
30 carries, 202 yards against Arkansas (~ top 10 rush defense)
21 carries, 156 yards against UF (~ top 15 rush defense)
And he also demolished lesser defenses like Auburn, Kentucky, and Vandy. He had 1323 yards... in his last EIGHT games. His 1547 total yards are more than a GT RB has had since... well, I can't remember when one of our guys had that many. Oh, and he had only 31 carries in his first 5 games and another 9 against Charleston Southern. Dude easily could have topped 2000 yards in a full season.
You lost all credibility when you said Chubb has only "good" strength. If you saw any game he played in other than our own you'd realize he was a top 5 back last year and is every bit as good as Gurley.
