Campus Question

Does GT have anything cool to bring your kid down, see the history, stadium, etc.(some sort of inside access)? I figured they might have a little more accessibility to the Athletic facilites (obviously not all of them) during the offseason?

Re: Campus Question

If you are a season ticket holder, you can get some behind the scenes type things, press tour, meet the team type stuff. Call the AA. I'm sure they can set something up for you.

yes. the Edge Center is at the corner of Bobby Dodd Way and Techwood Dr (the NE corner of the stadium)

you can go in, they have all kinds of trophies, pictures, etc of past wins, championships, etc

they have the net from the hoop when Dennis Scott stepped back and sank a three after stealing the inbounds pass from UNC and we won by 1.. stuff like that

it worth looking at for sure

there is a photo gallery at the link

apparently that link to the photo gallery is bunk

here is a quick view though

from 2012:
Georgia Tech is thought by many to have the nation’s best all-around athletic facilities, and the Arthur B. Edge building plays a big factor in that accolade. Attached to Bobby Dodd Stadium, the 65,000-square-foot center impresses from the first step inside, as a glass atrium towers several stories above the lobby. Visitors can view the “Circle of Champions” display there or proceed to the George W. Mathews Jr. Athletic Heritage Center to see more school history, including a movie theater for highlight films. In addition to the training facilities for the athletes, Edge also houses a conference center, a large academic area, a dining hall, and a meditation room.

I agree. Just walk around the AA right when you walk in at the corner of Techwood and BD Way. Free to the public to just browse and there are tons of cool pieces of GT sports history to look at.

Only tangentially related, but the college football hall of fame is nearby too now, right? Might make for a cool afternoon to do both.

And there is some little Dave and Buster's type thing right there at the CHOF. I suppose it is still there.

The College Football HOF is definitely worth the trip. The Edge Center is, as well.

I don't know of any behind the scenes Stadium stuff during the offseason.

you can go into the Student Success Center and at least look through the big glass window into the stadium

Re: Campus Question

Just today MBob was telling folks that the Edge Center doesn't represent GT well bc it is old and dated and rundown. FWIW.

One other thing - you can pair it with going to a GT spring practice. Stadium will be open at that time.

Maybe he's looking to ask for renovation money. Just two years ago NBA owners were saying the business was in shambles and they were all losing money.

More student athletic fees! Maybe a new fee we can call an Athletic Tourism Fee?

they recently did a renovation, put in that ticket office, more offices, cleaned it up a little. i am sure that he would love a nice renovation to secure his legacy on the program, its what ADs seem to live for - facility creation. they have essentially become fund-raisers

I thought it was pretty nice in the mid 80's. The lettermen's club was pretty posh and the powerade dispensers seemed like the big time to me.

Yes, in the mid-80's it was what, 3 years old? I hope they've changed the carpets, at least, since then.

Edge needs a facelift at least. Should cut off the top floor and tie it into the North stands too. make them at least slightly symmetrical.
