Respect

You win games in the trenches on both sides and at QB. Our front seven on defense and our O-line plus QB are the best in the conference. Let Clemson deal with the target on their back to start the season.

our front seven is the best in the conference?

Let him go he's on a roll

I feel like these Clemson expectations are assuming 0 injuries. They are replacing 12 of 18 on the OL/DL 2-deep. And sure they have some highly ranked guys waiting in the wings. Miitch Hyatt - 5* OL from GA will be relied upon to start at LT as a true frosh now. So let's say he is an animal from the get go (big assumption) - what happens when he goes down for a game? I'm sure they will field a talented starting 22, but it will be inexperienced and they are not going to be able to absorb injuries as well as other teams. And again, if Watson goes down early I'm not sure they make a bowl game.

As for us, I like that we're the favorite, but I think it's a toss-up between GT/VT right now. I think we're the better overall team, but I think Bud Foster neutralizes that head-2-head. I could easily see a scenario where we go 9-3 (6-2) and VT goes 8-4 (6-2) against an easier schedule, but beats us and gets the H2H tiebreaker.

It can all change quickly, but looking at the rosters and coaches GT and VT are a tier above the rest of the Coastal IMHO. Their defense is going to be nasty good this year. And it would be tough for their offense to be worse.

This could be said of any school. What if 'Player X' goes down for us? We are still paper thin at DL. Our OL might have some depth, but take Freeman away and who is our DE pass rusher? If JT goes down, who on our offense scares you? Are they thinner at OL, sure, but they have 4 and 5 stars up and down that roster, so they certainly have some talent.

Starts a thread about the team getting respect asking now what are we gonna bitch about then start bitching about the team.

That's how you corndog it.

I'm just arguing that it is the proper level of respect. We should be favored to win the Coastal. I agree with that. However, I see the team objectively enough to think that Clemson and FSU should be favored over us.

I can objectively evaluate my own team without getting emotional "bigcry clemson bigrcy watson bigcry"

You objectively rate us lower than a team we beat 22-6 last year while we return more players.

OK.

If they returned Cole Stout at QB for our game, I like our chances better... but I don't think he'll be a big contributor to our scoring this year.

If you couldn't see the talent Watson possesses you are blind. Is he perfect, no, but he is one of those players that stands out on the field as being special. It is easy to see. I think y'all are just blinded by chugging that haterade and butthurt cockatail.

I'd look out for NC St. Glad we aren't playing them in regular season. Could be 'one of those years' for them.

Yeah, wouldn't hitch my ride to that contention. Stoudt was single-handedly responsible for two GT TDs with a pair of the most atrocious picks I have ever seen. Watson played like 10 minutes that game. Assuming he is healthy for 60 this year in Death Valley, we are in for a fight.

Clemson is öööö good. 10+ wins four years running (only Bama and Oregon can match that) with bowl wins over tOSU, LSU and Oklahoma. The way Dabo is recruiting, they are in reload mode.

We are good, too. Not saying we don't have a chance, but Clemson is as good a bet as any to win the ACC.

Who's the retart that voted for Virginia to win the Coastal?

but looking at the rosters and coaches GT and VT are a tier above the rest of the Coastal IMHO. Their defense is going to be nasty good this year. And it would be tough for their offense to be worse.

I agree. I think both will have very good seasons. I see GT winning between 8-11 games and VT about the same (9-10 games). GT should sweep Alcorn, Tulane, a weak Duke, and UVA. We have tough games @ ND, @ Clemson, FSU, VT, and Georgie. If we win 3 out of that bunch and handle the middling Coastal teams of Pitt, UNC, and Miami that's a special 10 win season. And if we are good enough to win 10 why not 11? VT's got tough games against Ohio State, ECU, and GT. But everything else on the schedule they should win (on paper). They get to play NC State and BC in the Atlantic, which isn't the easiest draw, but it's a lot easier than FSU Clemson. As a result, Thursday, Nov 12, will likely decide the Coastal.

The next tier, in my opinion are UNC and Pitt. Both have everything in place to have a break out year and challenge GT and VT, but UNC has always had the players to do this, and hasn't done it, while Pitt is on their 5th coach since Paul Johnson was hired (although, to be fair, one of them didn't coach a game because he was arrested on domestic violence charges). I think UNC is in the 7-9 range and Pitt in the 6-8 range.

I think that Miami and Duke will have bad seasons, given their schedules. If Duke didn't play an SEC out of conference schedule amongst P5 schools (Tulane, NC Central, Northwestern, Army OOC), and they'd struggle to make a bowl. That's five wins. They only need to beat one coastal team to go bowling. Miami can't slip up with Nebraska, VT, FSU, GT, and Clemson on the schedule. That's probably 4 losses in there, maybe 5, but I think they are good enough to steal one of those. Add in Cincinnati, and the rest of the Coastal and Miami has to win most of its games against Cincy, Duke, UVA, UNC, and Pitt to go bowling. I think they'll make a bowl, but I don't see more than 7 wins on the schedule for them. If they get the breaks they could win 8, but I see them at 6-7.

UVA could have a good team and still not make a bowl game. They have UCLA, Notre Dame, Boise State, GT, Louisville, and VT on the schedule. Even if they steal one of those, they'd still have to go 5 out of 6 against the rest of the schedule.

Coastal finishes:

1. GT
2. VT
3. UNC
4. Pitt
5. Virginia
6. Miami
7. Duke

so based on the hypothetical that Deshaun Watson would've played extremely well against us, you are objectively putting Clemson ahead of us.

OK.

Cole Stoudt won 7 games for the Clemson Tigers in 2014, including blitzkrieging Oklahoma. He only lost to 2 Top-10 teams in UGA and Georgia Tech.

Justin Thomas put up similar offensive efficiency numbers against their common opponents as Deshaun Watson, and Watson loses his entire line.

Objectively, that means Clemson is better than us.
