Ted Roof and Gwinnett County

Really interesting at the end of the article with the numbers of Gwinnett County recruits by year. We are definitely making inroads.

I would have said that Gailey and/or O'Leary would have signed some due to the 3peat against uga and good records O'Leary had, but not so:

The decision of Norcross defensive back Jarett Cole last week gave the Yellow Jackets four Gwinnett commitments in the class of 2016, joining Dacula linebacker Jakob Brashear, Buford athlete Xavier Gantt and Grayson lineman Chris Martin. All four were recruited mainly by Roof, who also played a part in six Gwinnett players in Tech’s 2014 and 2015 classes.

...

During the 18-year span from 1996 to 2013, Tech signed just 11 players from Gwinnett. And three of those were in the 2012 class. Nine times in that stretch Tech didn’t land a single Gwinnett player.

2004 (1) #Buford’s Kyle Manley
2003 (1) #Brookwood’s Mansfield Wrotto
2002 (0)
2001 (1) Collins Hill’s Kyle Wallace
2000 (0)
1999 (1) Parkview’s Jeremy Muyres

I went to high school with Wrotto - nice guy and he broke a long draft drought for us. Looks like he is getting his MBA now. Good on him.

This is exactly one of the things that needs to be done. Great job TR.

The other great thing about recruiting locally is that the fans of these kids from high school will follow them to college and we may pick up some new fans as well.

Probably some, but more importantly, we will probably have their teammates and coaches' attention, which can pay dividends in recruiting.
