Biggest game since?

The thing about this game is it's a win. Notre Dame is going to lose at least three this year and Tech needs to be the first one so that when they lose again it's because our team embarrassed them on the national stage and they never were able to bounce back. Losing this game won't be a quality loss after they drop a few more. There's not a doubt in my mind that we win this game.

To me, the real "big" games are the ones following a win like this, namely Duke and UNC. Those are the biggest games in a season like this, as are Pitt, UVA, and Miami. All of those games follow the big "national stage" games and the ones that worry me most because of history. I feel like this team has it in them to not only make the statement games count, but to keep their öööö foot on the gas through the ones that everyone will expect us to win. Period.

It's but but honestly it's kind of like a gateway game to bigger games this year. When we win, the Clemson, FSU, and especially UGA games are HUGE. But we have to win this one. As long as we have a decent year though, the UGA game is the most important for the whole year.

Did TCU join a league with a conference championship game?

Sorry man, I just have never lived in a world where Georgia Tech football gets a break.

You tell me which 4 get picked:

Alabama
Ohio State OR Michigan State
Baylor OR TCU
USC OR Oregon
Georgia Tech

If you think a 12-1 Tech team gets in over a 12-1 Oregon team, then there's no reason to continue this. Actually, there is no reason to continue this. Agree to disagree.

This is the biggest game for GT in the state of Indiana since 2007

I think that, for a lot of reasons, this is one of the biggest games in a looooong time.

1) It's the first time we've ever been considered even a longshot NC contender in the PJ era. Winning Saturday would put us firmly in the position of contender.

2) We've played plenty of tough games, but it doesn't get much more "prime time" than Notre Dame. Lots of people will be watching, and most of them will probably be cheering for us.

3) A win Saturday would be a big first step to change the perception of the program, which could really help recruiting.

Thoughts? When's the last time we had a game this big?

I don't think a 1-loss ACC team will make it into the playoff; I think the implication of a win is that we shoot up in the ranking and join (somewhat) the Playoff conversation.

Tech, Clemson, and FSU have enough weight to get in with 1-loss. FSU probably doesn't have the schedule and Clemson might not either. Tech does though. A 1-loss Tech going 4-1 or 5-0 against @ND, @CU, FSU, UGA, and FSU/CU again would have a better resume then everybody other than an undefeated team or a 1-loss SECW team.

Usually I'd say this is the game we could probably lose, but I think it's too important to get our name into the conversation early. Then we could absorb a loss to Clemson on the road and still be Top 10 rather than dropping out of the Top 20 with a loss in South Bend.

This is probably the ACCs biggest game of the year. A win boosts the importance of so many more games. A loss and we have no top-tier teams.

To me,what victory would you trade for this win THIS yr?
I would rather beat ND than any other team except uga this yr.

In this situation a 12-1 Tech team would go in over a 10-3 Alabama team since we're just throwing hypotheticals around.

Also maybe ND winds up 13-0. Then our 1 looks pretty öööö good considering it would be on the road as well.

I accept your surrender.

If all the above teams have one loss we get in over Baylor or TCU. You think our schedule wouldn't stack up well with those teams?

I fear that a significant portion of our fanbase will slit their wrists if we lose this game, which we very well could.

The FSU and Clemson games are the biggest game we play, but I want to win them all.

What are the implications of this game? I say none.

We lose, doesn't impact our ability to win the ACC. We can easily go on and win out after a ND loss and be in the playoff.
I also say none. NC is probably not an achievable goal anyway, do we really have the defense required? But even if you lose, all goals are still on the table, even a magical 11-1 run to the playoff.

Best part about this weekend is that the football season FINALLY starts, and we get a barometer of who we are and what we need to work on.
