This whole thread is an interesting summation of the conflicting mood swings that GT fans go through every week (especially on ST). We all call out players for sucking or yell at them to be benched after every loss, but we stand up for them 10 years after they are gone. Regardless of whether or not I was trolling, I would put it out there that if you are going to protect a player 10 years after he played then you should be protecting that same player while he is playing now.
There is a difference between being critical of a player in the heat of the moment during a gut wrenching loss, and trashing a guy for a whole decade. Most of us gain something called perspective over time. I'm proud of anybody who ever put on that uniform and gave it their best.

Come off it, you weren't trolling. It's just a convenient escape now that you've been a dick.

Also. People change a lot in 10 years so it's pretty difficult to expect them to behave the same way toward something as fringe as sports fanaticism. I had Reggie rage when I was 24. But, I was 24. Now I'm not.
I used to get as frustrated with him during the games as everyone else but I defended him rather vehemently up until IJAG,D at which point I think I pitched some kind of hissy fit. I defended him for a lot longer than I did his coaches. I still fume thinking about our staff and things like the 06 ACCCG, but Reggie? Nah.

Actually the thread started with a discussion about things Reggie did this week and YOU made it about things from 10 years ago. I can only assume this is due to your rich emotional health and life perspective.

Reggie ball played way better than you ever did. He was a nice guy, and was respobsible, at least in part, for some very memorable GT wins while I was in school. He doesn't deserve that treatment at all.
This. I cannot believe how we disrespect a player that held together a team the best he could despite the best efforts of the coaching staff that was in place.

He was a good player doing his best under the circumstances.

This thread went exactly like I expected it to after reading the title. Y'all are so predictable.

I'd actually like to know what Reggie had to say, without actually listening.

Second. Dude was not bad as he gets hammered for...he had a bad career vs UGA. I enjoyed watching him beat Auburn twice and ND

Anyone who puts on the Tech uniform and wore it proudly and continues to be a good representative of the Institute is fine by me - Reggie Ball included. It doesn't matter how good he was, or what - he is one of us.
+1

Also, he was never as good or bad as it seemed.

Time to leave the dude alone.

I'm glad he is still a GT fan regardless of whether he lived up to expectations as a player. If people öööö on me as a 18-22 year old (and still ongoing) as much as they öööö on him, there is no way I'd show any allegiance to the school or fanbase.
Pretty much this.

I cannot imagine the PTSD he must have from his senior year performance at the Dwags.

I was in school for the Reggie years. I was immature and dogged him when he wasn't playing well. Looking back, that guy laid it out there every game. If he was our best option at QB and it wasn't good enough for you, then dog the coach for going 4 years without recruiting a better QB to take his spot.

I am not a Reggie fan, but I have to respect the guy for the effort and the fact that he is still a Tech advocate after the lashings he received / receives.

Well his inaccuracy did create one of the best Calvin Johnson highlights ever!

But seriously, his skill set is a testament to how stubborn Chan was, he tried to keyhole Reggie into his system instead of working around Reggie strengths. I have a feeling if Reggie were coached by CPJ, he'd be remembered in the same vein as Nesbitt. I always thought they displayed the same toughness and ability.

There you have it, folks. Never change your opinions or behavior over the course of 10 years or you are a hypocrite. Pretty easy stuff to understand.

We get mad at them at the time because they're still playing and we're being emotional about their performance. What you're doing is like someone's wife giving them öööö for something they did 10 years ago.

I like Reggie. He punched a Georgia coach in the face, and that is the finest thing any man can ever do. He had a white bread coach and a low-functioning retard for an OC. I've seen better players lay down and quit. He never did.
Exactly. Sure, we didn't beat UGA under Reggie. We have not done a lot of beating UGA since 1964. Reggie fought hard in every UGA game. As hard or harder than anyone on the team. We had a shot to win a few of those. With better coaching, we probably win at least one of those games comfortably, and UGA was a better team then than they are now.

I felt bad for Reggie in 2004 when Miami made their first visit and we absolutely could not block Miami's MLB. Reggie was pretty much relegated to QB keepers as he had about a half a second after the snap before getting popped. He still stuck it out all game and fought until the end, even though we were seriously over matched.

I like him

He drove me nuts sometimes but so do my kids

I like Gailey too.

Some people here were very unhappy way before Gailey or Reggie ever got here. They just found something to direct it at and never let go.

I've always laughed at guys with ugly wives who aren't the best at their job - who have the nerve to say they "will not accept mediocrity"

Guys who never played the sport who say a guy on scholarship "is awful"

Guys who demand we be best nationally when they aren't even the best in their own office location

He was a kid who was under a spotlight. He handled college a lot better than I ever did.

Auburn 2 for 2 - # 3 Miami - 10 win NC State teams w Philip Rivers, TA McClendon, and FOUR first round draft picks on D - 10 win Maryland teams - He won a lot more than some of you guys seem to remember

But you should appreciate him or at least give him a break either way.
