Is This Year a Rebuilding Year?

Then teach them. Only a suggestion.

Perimeter blocking, not just technique but scheme, is probably the hardest thing to teach in this offense outside maybe the b back mesh read. And we were trying to do it with freshman BEFORE they all started getting injured.

If it wasn't a rebuilding year before, it definitely is now.

Looks like there were some good predictions in this thread. I was thinking 9-3 before the season, and I'll drop that to 8-4 now because I didn't think we would lose the Duke game. Anything less than that and I will be disappointed, anything more and I will be pleasantly surprised because it means we win out from here and beat at least 2/3 of FSU, Clemson, and UGA.

This is definitely a rebuilding year in a lot of ways, if you think about who we lost. Now that injuries have started to plague us, this is officially a rebuilding year. We are absolutely ravaged at the offensive skill positions at this point.
I was impressed when I realized the date this thread started back in August.

I had us at 7-5 then but didn't account for a loss to Duke so guess what that means now. I felt 8-4 would have been a good season given our murderer's row schedule. With Clemson, F$U, and dwags still to go, even if we swept all the coastal division games (doubtful since that's never happened) we wouldn't reach 8 wins. We need to hold serve in the Coastal and pull a major upset in one of those three to make up for Duke, that was a very costly loss.

Offense will be........ BETTER in 2015. I hate to break it to you and I am a HUGE fan of Laskey and Days but those guys weren't the cream of the crop. They thrived in a system designed to get the most out of what is available and they excelled behind a O-Line that will be better with added depth minus Shaq in 15. A back yes we lost some here but take a öööö breath and let them get some freaking reps. By ND they will be blocking better and doing just fine on the pitch / toss. As for the WR core lets see how that pans out. Something tells me CPJ is sandbagging. He LOVES the underdog card and the "It pissed us off when they picked us 5th in the division". SO..... Calm down and see how this plays out. I am guessing 9-3 with a shot at 10-2 or 11 -1 if our D is truly as improved as I think it will be.

It still takes guys who can play to make plays. Contrary to what most people think...this isn;t a plug and play offense like some say. Never minimize what GT did last year. Those guys were heck of a football players who excuted the triple option offense. It really is no difference executing any other offense. You either have good players or you don't.

This season is very weird, because we're on the edge of two polar opposite teams: one that doesn't go bowling, and one that still makes the new years 6. This team can't be reduced down to just good or bad, because we're really good in terms of having athletes, experience, and a good scheme. Typically teams that put all that together are hard to deal with, but we're not blocking. I feel like this isn't rocket science, and that our guys really could turn it on at any moment (maybe not as well as last season but certainly we haven't seen any at all so far), and as soon as you add blocking back into the mix, we're a really good team again. It's all our offense is missing, and our defense is executing very well so far, and isn't even in the conversation as to why we're losing games.

The question is just, then, is any blocking going to happen this season? I really have no idea how to forecast that.

Losing Gostis, Hunt-Days, Marcordes, and the entire secondary, doesn't bode well for next year. Not to mention Byerly, Snoddy, Skov, Braun, Chamberlain, and Joe.

The jail breaks on passing downs and 3rd downs on D could get a lot worse.

The good news= last years recruiting class gets bigger, stronger, and healthier.

The young backs and receivers are getting experience that they would not get if it wasn't for attrition and injuries. Maybe they will develop sooner than they would if they were standing on the sidelines or practicing with the scout team. They are good athletes with a lot of potential, so let's hope that the light comes on for a few of them this week. I don't want JT to try to win games himself, but I wouldn't be surprised if he adapts to a slightly different role as the season progresses.

If the O line and perimeter blocking improve we can beat any team on our schedule. If neither improves enough we could lose to any team remaining on our schedule. I think we improve enough to go 8-4 possibly even 9-3 if the ball bounces our way enough.

We need more than just those two things to improve. JT and the WR's need to improve. What he did last year was last year. He looks nothing like that guy so far this year.
