1. Horrible play calling at the end of the 2nd with <2 min left. You are killing it on the ground. March up the field and kick a FG. Do anything but pass. Horrible play calling by CPJ.

2. UNC wasn't even guarding the outside on 3rd and 4th and goal. The rocket would have been easy money. But Chizik zeroed in on CPJ stubbornness. Horrible play calling.

3. Roof has no answer for Woody Dantzler.

4. Targeting call was BS. That rule needs to change or just flat out say you can't hit above the waist in the pocket.

5. Fedora masterfully executed the Matt Ryan/BC offense of 'they will only call holding 3 times in a game'. Hunt-Days was groped more than a big tittied chick at Marti Gras.

Agree with all but 5. Hunt was on his back all game. He is awful.

I don't think they turned it over? :frown:

Regardless of young and/or mediocre talent on both sides of the ball; we win this game with decent coaching calls.

I understand your players should be able to execute a 1 yard TD run, but when they show they can't on the QB follow why do you go back to it?! And you don't take the 3 points?

I don't understand the calls. Can anyone enlighten me?

Two plays:
DJ White drops a sure pick-six
Thomas fumble

It wasn't just Jabari. There was a ton of arm, pad, and jersey grabbing. But sometimes that is what the refs allow. But I think it was intensional, as Fedora wasn't worked up over the early penalties.

I dont disagree, but if not for the dropprd pick 6 and fumble when we had good field position, we still could have won. A lot had to go wrong for us to lose this game...and it did.
Edit: miles44 beat me to it.

I don't mind going for it on 4th and inches at the goal. But when you get blown up on 3rd down, why expect different on 4th. UNC was better playing low at the goal line. The pitch was there.

The dropped pick 6 was the game. They would have been done. But, that's a player making an effort and coming up short. Justin's fumble killed us. Again, that's a player trying. He is really struggling in his second year as a starter, trying to do too much, and instead costing at critical times. But, again, he's trying.

The coaches are trying, too, but they make enough money to be responsible for losses like this. At 21-7, get to the locker room with a two touchdown lead at the half. Find something you can be confident in running on third and fourth and short.

It's never a good thing for Tech players and coaches to get a big head. We only win with hard work and execution. Somehow this team drank the kool aid, coaches too despite CPJ's protestations otherwise, and believed they had truly arrived. They mauled their two easy opponents, but when it came time to buckle down and play good opposition, we have spit the bit.

Agreed. Can't believe anyone would blame CPJ for wanting to go for it on fourth and short...historically, it's been good for us, and the stats back up making that call.

That said, the play call was really weak. Same type of thing happened last week too, we went up the middle late in the game on fourth and got stuffed.

Johnson messed in his pants by not milking clock at end of 1st half which lead to 7....should have been 21-7 at half

I'll go one step further and say we should have run our offense as it had been and go into the half 24-7. But that bullshit pass-pass-pass when we have shown zero ability to pass protect and only 1 throw on the year of >25 yards in the air, play calling was crap.

CPJ seems to be calling plays this year with an eye on being better late in the year/next year rather than win games. It looks like he is play calling to get good fundamentals for next year when the schedule is softer.

I think it was excellent play calling, poor execution by JT. Had a reciever wide open and overthrew him. Pass protection was excellent JT just didn't make the throws.

This isn't like a typical WracerX thread.

Sorry, but I call BS on the whining about playcalling at the end of the half. People around me were already starting to bitch about not throwing to the wide open slot receivers, and when we finally try it, they bitch about the call. Fact is, the play was open and we should be able to execute it. We know öööö well that PJ is an aggressive coach and we love him for it when it works.

He's not calling plays any worse than he did last year. We're just not as good of a team this year, and our luck had been downright awful. It's ultimately his fault, as is everything, but I don't think playcalling is the right culprit.

I agree that play calling is not the culprit but I would've liked to see us try a speed option play on the goal line one time.
