Wow.
The donor said UM ended up eating $7 million by firing Golden on Sunday and not waiting until the end of the season. The buyout, the donor said, would have been about $4 million less had UM waited until after the season. But trustees, not James, the donor said, pushed the issue of firing Golden during Saturday's 58-0 loss to Clemson, the most lopsided in school history.

I'm pretty sure I could've conned my way into a head coaching gig I was grossly in over my head for in order to get the big buyout. My odds are better than the lottery I think.

With all of Tech's disadvantages, this is the one thing that gives me hope: absolute gross incompetence of other colleges.

I think it's going to be Butch, [Greg] Schiano or [Rob] Chudzinski

Butch Jones has a good chance to have a show-cause order from the NCAA. If the show-cause order is issued after they hire Butch Jones, then they have to buy out his whole contract before he coaches one game. The other two options are utterly failed HC's at the NFL level. Schiano is thought now to have been lucky with one very good class at Rutgers.

Meanwhile, USC still has Pat Haden as the AD. He apparently paid six figures to a search firm as a pure CYA move before hiring Sarkisian. A lot of good that did. I guess Haden was too busy going down on the field to argue calls.

There are so many other examples. You have Lowder and Auburn, which somehow accumulated with Auburn being put on academic probation and the hiring of Gene Chizik.

Big donors become like irrational NFL owners, such as Ford and the Lions or Snyder and the Redskins. Big donors or owners don't really answer to anyone, so they're free to burn money until the rank-and-file fans revolt.

Asking for a friend, what is Gregory's buy-out?

$2.4 million

(That's ridiculous by the way)

Sure, just take a few liberties with your resume and you should be fine. Nobody checks those things anyway

They're talking about Butch DAVIS, their former coach who washed out with the Browns and although unnamed he was in the middle of the academic fraud at NC.

Sorry, way too many Butches. Butch Davis is who I was talking about. A show-cause order isn't coming any time soon for Butch Jones.

I think, but in no way sure, that Davis is in the clear per NCAA.

If he is, I do not know how long after the fact a "show cause" can be issued.

Regardless, I don't think um will hire him.

Wow, $4 million for the satisfaction of firing him before the season is over?

Fully engulfed dumpster fire, but for $4 million you can throw it off a cliff and start with a new dumpster that is merely on fire.

They had to do it now. That's why Richt was there last week and this week. They have been in contact with him since soon after the Thursday night loss to Cincy per very valid sources.

I mean, as is coming up in this thread as well, GT isn't immune from dumb crap a la Hewitt's contract. Granted we've had a pretty good run as far as football is concerned. Worst thing since we hired O'Leary was probably giving Gailey a contract extension, but I don't remember what year that was so can't say just how bad.

If they have $4 million to simply poop like that, you have to believe money, buyouts, etc.. won't be problem for them in hiring their next coach.

Are you saying that aStingtalk poster is a "very valid source"?
