Muschamp to Scar?

Ray Tanner had all season to work the back channels and this is the best he could do? I would be irate. I wonder if this hire fails, Tanner fails too.

Yeah, I suppose it's always possible it works out, but I'd be pretty underwhelmed if I were a Gamecock fan.

All I know when black coaches said they do not get an opportunity all they have to do is point to this hire

Underwhelmed, certainly, but I would be furious. Taking a risk on an unproven guy like Georgia is now and like Florida did when they hired BMFY, that's one thing. This is hiring a guy who is one year removed from getting fired by one of your conference rivals and a school that gave him a better opportunity to succeed than you can. It makes no sense and I will not be remotely surprised if the Cocks head back into the cellar they occupied before Spurrier came in. This is an awful, awful hire.

This could be more entertaining than Spurrier throwing his visor.

No kidding. When he's stomping down the sideline screaming, pumping his fists as they pull ahead of Western Carolina 12-10 in the third quarter, I expect there will be a fountain of new .gifs to be made.

All a master plan by the Dawg boosters to have their boy close by if their new hire fails.

They still have their Cockabooses.

This!

Even if he does turn out to be really successful, I am finding it hard to understand the logic of hiring someone who is so close to havin failed miserably at a school with much better resources, playing largely the same schedule as you do.

Have they had the announcement presser yet? Or has a statement been released? I'm genuinely interested in what their motivation in this hire could have possibly been.

@DarenStoltzfus
The State reporting Will Muschamp has hired Kurt Roper as OC... the same OC at Florida when Muschamp was fired.

Bold strategy Cotton.

Playing devil's advocate:

1. Florida was crushed by injuries while Muschamp was there.

2. The offense has shown similar issues since Muschamp left Florida. That bodes more for Muschamp getting a bad hand for offense, with injuries, players not panning out, etc.

3. Muschamp recruited well at Florida, at least on defense. Not that it's that tough to recruit well at UF.

4. Muschamp was Head-Coach-In-Waiting at Texas, when Texas was considered a top 5 program.

5. Muschamp may have an OC already in mind, that USC's AD likes and promises to go hard after.

Personally, I'm not sold either. His "boom mother-effer" nature makes people like him more than they should. His passion alone won't win games, especially on offense. He has to make intellectual decision, like hiring an OC who isn't Charlie Weis.

I was about to say all he needs is a legit OC and then I read this...lol

Roper was only there the last year though I think. And it was injuries and poor QB talent that really did Muschamp in. Not really Roper's fault.

Not saying it's a great hire, but it's not bad. Roper did a good job at Duke. He just needed a little more time at UF before a real decision could be made of him.
