Demetris Robertson decision coming [after LOI deadline]

As for his pitch here at Georgia, Smart has been hitting Robertson hard with UGA’s prowess as an academic institution. He said he had his staff research not just what all the great receivers did on the field, but what receivers have accomplished off the field. And he said the Robertsons have been duly impressed.

“That was a big selling point,” Smart said. I didn’t want to hear about Hines Ward or whoever the pro first-rounders were. I said tell me about the guys who didn’t make it in the NFL. We did a really intensive study and found a lot of guys were in really successful in different fields and I think that was a good sales pitch for him. He gets it now.”

  • The academics part of the visit was everything to the Robertson family. His mother got to see all of it and Robertson said “she was blown away by it” on the visit. Carlos Robertson said her input “will be big” in terms of her son’s decision. “They hit the nail on the head and answered all of our real big questions when it came to academics,” he said.
  • More on academics: Carlos and Demetris Robertson and their family met with UGA President Jere W. Morehead in his office for more than an hour. They learned about the potential of The Terry College of Business for his on-campus and post-graduate life and the alumni and networking benefits for graduates with that degree. To make sure we balance the scales, Carlos said the family did meet with the Presidents at Alabama and Georgia Tech. Those were the two other official visits he joined Demetris on.
  • Third down on academics: Robertson said UGA answered every question on the academics side. Carlos Robertson said he used to look at Georgia as more of a football school, but he’s now changed his mind. “Georgia is now a place where I think of academics, too. Georgia has the academics now. It can take you a long way.”
  • To summarize, the Robertson family now knows the full value of the UGA degree and the alumni network which supports it. That was a big question the family had for the visit. They wanted to know how the UGA degree enables his future success even if a bankroll of earnings in pro football is removed from the equation.

Wow -- this guy gets can hour with the Presidents of Alabama, UGA & GT. Pretty sure most recruits don't warrant that. Props to Bud for doing that.

If she was "blown away" by uGA's academics, what the hell did she think about Tech or Stanford or Cal? That must have damn-near killed her.

Good God, Brandon Miller part 2 coming right up.

Does UGA have any football players in the Terry College of Business? Did they talk about the value of a Magazines or Housing degree? Did Malcolm Mitchell show him his collection of Dr. Seuss books or take him to his old lady read-in?

Did they show him that that GT's business school is ranked higher than UGAg's?

Con-man Kirby. That's why he is a "great recruiter". Given that the kid has drunk the kool-aid, I'd rather he just make it into Stanford.

If we don't have a 1 sheet of paper story that proves, without a doubt, that GT is far and away a better academic school that provides a 7 figure difference in future earnings, then our program has failed at marketing to recruits.

In fact, we can probably make the for CPJ on a two sided piece of paper:

Side 1: The myth of the "mighty SEC". Percent of 5-star recruits drafted by the NFL from the SEC and ACC, Percent of 4-star recruits drafted, Percent of 3-star recruits drafted. Use the last 5 years as a baseline.

Side 2: Opportunities outside of football. National rankings of both schools. UGA starting salary ($42k) vs. GT starting salary ($72k). Future career earnings from GT vs. uGA (just extrapolate from the Payscale early and mid-tenure salaries). % of students who graduate with a job from GT and UGA. % of millionaires by age 40 for GT and uGA. A couple of employment stories for former GT football players (NASA employees, Fortune 500 executives, etc). Majors of GT football players vs. uGA football players and have a weighted average based on salaries by major.

Hand it out to recruits and dare them to have uGA provide data to refute it.

Can Beestorm go ahead and delete this thread? I am sick of looking at it, I keep clicking on it so just by chance I click and find out something good.

Honestly, the kid isn't going to school to become an engineer. He's gonna go to school to study something like management. UGA business degrees do go far in this state, I'd say on par with Tech because of uga grads hiring uga grads. Or if he wants to study political science or something and get a government job, uga is still a decent choice.

What he doesn't realize is that he will not be studying at uga. He's going to be in the football program, training, playing football and partying the rest of the time while he's just given passing grades. He will be royalty in that öööö hole and I can guarantee his mom that his degree, if he gets one, will be total ööööe once he graduates. At Tech our players have to take calculus for öööös sake. Yes, they get tutoring and help with homeworks and quizzes and what not, but they still have to pass the same ööööing classes just like the rest of the student body. So he and his mom don't realize that, regardless of the few exceptions that did great outside of football with a uga degree, he will truly be throwing his life away. If he's willing to become NFL or bust, then he should go to dwagland and become another statistic later on in life.

I thought he said he wanted to study engineering at one point. Could be mistaken.

If he tries to study engineering at Tech, with the scores that he has currently, it won't matter that we get him, because he'll be academically ineligible within a very short period of time. Then we'll wait for him like we waited for Jabari for how many seasons?

It is what it is.
