The 50 Best Colleges for African-Americans

Ole Miss isn't on here?

More sit-ins at Woolworth"s is needed in Oxford.

Will this type of publicity, together with Atlanta being ranked the best city for African-Americans, help in recruiting?
Spandex, it already helps recruiting the guys actually interested in building a future for themselves outside of football. Unfortunately, the percentage that value this very highly is small.

Be realistic, which is more attractive to a teenager, the promise of a good future through hard work and education, or the promise of being "the man" at football factory X, with images of you highlighted on espn flashing through your head?

Good points. I was hoping that the increased positive exposure would help us tip the scale for a couple of recruits that we wanted., But, as you pointed out, it may have already been working for some of the players whom we do have.

I agree with this. We will never be awash with four- and five-star players. I was thinking less about us competing with Alabama and more about us competing with Stanford or ND.

Jackson State one place in front of Johns Hopkins. Seems legit.
If you look at the criteria, only 1/3 is based on potential future earnings. The other two thirds are affordability and size of the black student population. A low cost HBCU will place well on this list regardless of quality of education and career opportunities.

Surprised how low Howard placed, and no Morehouse?

I wonder why having a ranking "for African-Americans" isn't considered "racist" for lumping them all together.

I am sure the differences between an academic high achiever, a football player who can barely read, and the typical aspiring affirmative action slot filler are all overshadowed by their race.

I know that is exactly what I did in high school - looked at the white dregs of the class and thought, "What's the best school for all of us?"
