Official Spring Game thread

For me one of the worst OL performances i can remember. A joke. And he has no one else to blame. Its been under recruited, a little unlucky, crap coaching. In the stands i felt like i was looking at another 3 or 4 win team. God i hope i am just being overly harsh

Completely agree with this analysis. I even moved to the north stands to get a better view of the offensive line play from behind the end zone and it was still terrible. Whenever the defense wanted to stop a drive they simply sprinted an extra defender up into a gap before the snap and they were seldom picked up on the blitz which completely unhinges the TO. The QB's were too often running for their life and trying to make something out of nothing.

I know it's spring and a lot will change (hopefully improve) by September, but we should not be in this situation nine years into this regime.

Didn't see it. I bet you guys had a rough spring game before the Orange Bowl championship season, too. Spring games mean absolutely zilch.

Yes pretty typical spring game. Is the defense great or does the offense suck? We won't know until we play the games. The truth of the matter is that both will be somewhat more toward average. This group could win 9 or 10 games but they could also win as few as 3 or 4. A few standout players but not enough to put us any where near elite status. Pretty much like 90 plus percent of every team in America.

Go Jackets!
So much blind optimism in this post. This team can't win 10 games if it is spotted 4.

Things can change, certainly, but the OL as it was today is a freaking mess. Plays constantly blown up before anything can happen. Kinda like Notre Dame game.

A 270 lb tight end would do wonders for our pass protection.. Having a 230 lb fullback would help also. The only time our passing game will catch the defense in a neutral rush is when they expect us to run. When the entire world knows we are going to throw or most likely have to throw, they simply bring a minimum of six for our 5 to block and they can even telegraph where the overload is coming and we can't stop it.

Ordinarily I don't give two squeezes about a spring game. But watching this today was ... disappointing and discouraging. Got a lot to fix.
I think the defense will be better, though.

So, I take it we're seeing a typical spring game performance.
You know this öööö only works as an assurance when we're coming off a 11-3 season after beating uga, not after the 3-9 öööö show from last year. But yes typically we have a ööööty spring game performance then we proceed to a 7-6 season with a loss to uga to cap it off. So öööö always looks bad in the spring game isn't making anyone feel any better about this öööö.

It was really bad on offense and that makes it impossible to determine if the defense is good. How many years of a ööööty OL does it take? I'm sorry if your kid is one of them, and I'm not blaming him, but something is simply not working up front. I'm sure Sewak knows the job, but if he can't translate it to the players, that knowledge is useless. It's like trying to learn from a professor hired for research instead of teaching ability.

At one point, I focused for a series on one particular lineman. He was consistently firing past the defensive linemen in front of him to attempt a cut block on linebackers or safeties downfield (common part of scheme). In two specific instances the defensive lineman in front of him that he passed by stepped right into the backfield and either tackled the ball carrier or, in one instance, unblocked he still couldn't get there before one of his teammates coming from somewhere else had already made the tackle.

You have to scratch your head and ask, (a) did the lineman in question block the correct defender, (b) was another lineman supposed to slide and block that defender, or (c) did the QB make the wrong read? Is it scheme, coaching, talent or all of the above?

The only thing learned yesterday is just had badly Johnson's buddy Sewak needs to be fired.

Coach probably asked the defensive coaches to do what gave us the most trouble last season on every play. We still can't handle it. That has me very concerned.

Didn't watch the game but I'm going to guess the poor showing on O isn't because the D is anything great. Just a feeling.

Doom. Gloom. At least no one is crying about what day it was on this year.

That was my first and probably last spring game. It just seemed like the team was completely disorganized, and basically lost on the field.

Did we show any new looks on offense from a formation or playcalling standpoint? Coach said after the UGAy game he was going to open it up some this year.

Anybody got any video to post?
