Sat, Sept 3 vs Boston College - 7:30 AM ET

Orlando Sentinel Pre-Season Ranking: 83

Ok gang, time for the season's probability polls for 2016! Last year pretty much sucked, so if we have a crappy season this year someone else will have to do them.

First up, a Saturday morning game in Dublin against a perennial ACC doormat, Boston College. They haven't been good since Matt Ryan's offensive line held on every play in hopes the refs would miss a few calls. Some of our best and brightest are making the journey over the pond to see the game. God bless them. I'm staying home and using this as an excuse to start drinking before 7 AM on a Saturday morning.

The Eagles finished their 2015 campaign with a 3-9 record, which sounds kinda familiar. To top that off, they were winless in the ACC. They look to be typically strong on defense, but have some question marks on offense, including at the QB position. They were very anemic offensively last year, averaging just over 10 points a game.

I'll be putting these out every few days so we can get them all in before the first game.

I approve of the new pole format. So symmetrical.

I decided to change things up a bit. 1.0 is > 0.9 so there you go.
But when people really mean 0.95 they can balance whether or not they vote 0.9 or 1.0 based on the previous votes. I would have also offered 0.0 as an option in the past but vBulletin only allows 10 poll options and I figured 0.95 intended percentages would be more common than 0.05 percentages.

Oh well. People can play some game to post-process poll results like this to get a reasonable average for the purpose of calculating win probabilities.

In this world of probability there is no 1.0 and no 0.0. We should know that better than anyone!

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who remembers these shenanigans back in the 07 game. We only got one sack that game but blitzed a ton.

Start at 7AM? I thought that this is Stingtalk. The proper procedure is to not stop drinking Friday night.

Besides, it's the first game of the season and we're all unprepared. It's time to cram - think of your GT training; pull an all-nighter "studying", take the "test". After it's over you can walk back to your "dorm" and climb into your rack. Boom: you're in mid-season form after week 1.

50/50. BC's head coach is a former lineman who loves option football and visited CPJ to learn from him at Southern. It will be interesting to see how it goes.

The new format will result in a poll that's incorrectly skewed highly I think. Before it was very easy to see people who were just voting as high as possible (e.g. saying we'd beat Georgia 100%) and throw them out. With .9 or greater as the highest options it will be much tougher to identify those.

Anyway I'm only going .6. This is the first time in the CPJ era we'll have played a non-cupcake team as the first game of the season, isn't it?

In another of ccg's had to do it, showcase, somewhat national stage games - they beat the crap out of us fair & square.

BC has talent on defense and their coaches are preparing for us seriously, so they won't be embarrassed by CPJ's offense the way some teams have in the past. I think we might still score close to 30 points on them because the speed will surprise them and they will need a couple quarters to adjust. BC will not be able to keep up since their offense is expected to be bad again. I'll predict 27-17 Tech.
