BC is hoping to upgrade their offense this year with redshirt-senior transfer QB, Patrick Towles, who was the starter for Kentucky at the beginning of last year. It should be an improvement over the QB-by-committee that BC struggled with last year. Towles was a highly touted recruit out of HS, but never seemed to develop into the star he was projected to be. He's a big guy, 6'5" 253 lb., and mostly a drop back QB, but he did carry for 5 TDs last year on short yardage, so I guess he can fall forward for a few yards (think Logan Thomas). He lost the starting job at Kentucky late last season after throwing for 9 TDs with 14 INTs. He'll almost certainly be an improvement over the QB situation that BC had last year, but we'll see him in the opener with a new OC. I would think that their offense will still be working on their system and their timing, so I don't expect them to light up the scoreboard.

The committee threw 8 TDs and 9 INTs. He'll have a way better completion percentage than they did, but I don't know that he's going to represent a huge ball security improvement. Boston college has been dead last in the ACC in recruiting over the last 4 years as well, so it's not as though the talent differential he faced in the SEC playing at Kentucky is going to be mitigated either.

how good can he be if he can't even hold down the vaunted kentucky wildcat qb job?

I don't think he will kill us with his speed at about 4.82 but has size for sure. Nickname is "Patty Ice"
