I just re-watched all of our 1st half offensive plays...

I think you have identified the elephant in the room. This whole offense is predicated on having a QB that can read it and run it. I know we all love Justin but the truth is, he just is not proficient at running the offense. I know he is the best we have at it but he simply is not good enough at it to make us lethal. We will continue to be middling until we find a QB that can make it hum. They are few and far in between. So expect more 50/50 seasons with CPJ until he finds that guy.

Go Jackets!

Seriously? What is the read when there are three defensive players in the backfield as soon as the ball is snapped?

Came home early from golf course and was ready for a great game.Had visions of beating the tigers since we usually play them well in Atlanta but it was clear we didnt come close to mathching up with them.jWe got manhandled on both sides of the ball and JT had to run for his life all night long.Course we all know this but when are we ,if ever, going to admit we need special players to run this offense......bet Dabo wouldnt put Waston in it nor would many other coaches with top notch qbs.......we have been beaten repeatedly with recruting for years and to me its catching up with us.Guys are playing hard but we were so mismatched it was hard to watch..

I'm the kinda person who thinks that the passionate, Tim Tebow-type leader is obnoxious and off-putting, but that being said my biggest complaint about JT is that he seems to never really show any sort of emotion or even inspire confidence/extra effort. Granted, I know absolutley nothing about the team's chemistry and I think "playing with heart" is overstated bullshit, but the O has looked like robots programmed to repeat failure over the past couple of years.

The season is still young, so there's plenty of time to turn it around! Clemson has the toughest D we'll see this season, so hopefully things only improve from here.

Kudos to OP for stomaching that first half twice.

@sports You mean like this during the Vandy game...

I also have seen JT talking and pointing and basically leading...

The guys have just got to execute...

I think the inexperience at WR, AB, BB is manifesting in a lack of blocking ability on the edge. A well coached defense, like clemson, is going to be better at defeating cut-blocks than vandy and will require more effort to get guys on the ground.

The inexperience on OL is going to have similar issues. I haven't gone back to check the tape, but in-game it seemed like there was a consistent lack of OL penetration to the second level.

I've heard this same sentence 3 out of 4 games so far. :lol2:

I have been saying this since last year. I think the plays develop slower because JT either over-thinks it, or is slow making the reads. Nesbitt could often overcome a bad decision because of his size. Tevin probably was the best at making reads. (That's why he's on staff). It seems that both Vad and JT really don't like contact, and perhaps think rather than react to the split second decision.

Against most teams, JT's quickness can compensate for the bad read, but not against really good and speedy defenses.
Blasphemy! Burn her!

Damn we made some good blocks in that Miss St. game.
Agreed - and rarely do you see any of our OL flopping around on the ground. Instead, they're all standing during and after the play...after they've cleared huge lanes or created time to throw.

Holy öööö, you've just solved the problem! All we need to do is tell our OL to effectively block their man instead of getting beaten on the play!

BTW our OL cut blocked in every single running play in that video, and even 2 of the pass plays that turned into scrambles. We just did a better job of it.

So now you can't talk öööö about Paul Johnson you decide to talk öööö about the one quarterback who beat uga and won the orange bowl against a top 10 opponent? Y'all are ööööing pathetic. We know what JT can do behind a somewhat decent OL. We know how he makes plays out of thin air when he has no protection. We're not gonna get a quarterback like him for awhile.

So yeah y'all can go öööö yourselves.

We watched different videos as there was almost no cut blocking on any play. Which is probably why they worked so well. None of the OL-men are knee-diving. Which is especially smart when you're in pass protection.

On the pass plays, it's just standard, effective, stand-up-and-block-someone blocking. I know you're not used to seeing that but hey, we don't need gimmicky knee-dives to be effective blockers, and that video illustrates it perfectly. It's a great example of what JT can do with time and space, of which he's had little of ever since. It's also telling that almost none of our OL is on the ground after any of the plays.

Lots of lineman on the ground on Thomas's juke play. But yeah, overall there was quite a bit of stand-up blocking (which we would expect and still do on passing plays, but even on some of the running plays in that video), and most of the cuts I saw were on the second level. So my question is, what changed? Same HC/OC and OL coach. Heck, last year it was most of the same OL. Did they actually make a blocking scheme change or did everyone just forget?

What has changed is our OL is not good. Period. They were completely overmatched by better players on Clemson's DL. The coaches need to challenge them this week in practice or we will see similar results when Miami comes calling Saturday. It's time to man up and execute.

You guys are seeing things you want to see. The OL doesn't "dive at the ground" nearly as much as you think they do. This year, last year, and 2014. It is mostly drive blocking, and if an OL gets to the second level and can't his hands on an LB, who are harder to block, then they dive at the legs.

Truth. When you see linemen flopping on the ground and whiffing, it's because they were out of position. They would not have been able to make that block regardless of how they did it.
