Thought it was great that CTR teared up when talking about how special it was to have TD come to GT. Can only imagine what a special feeling that is for him.

So why did the other Roof kid go to East Carolina? I mean what are they known for aside from periodically upsetting VPI and UNC?

This is a solid class and no drama on signing day. CPJ was able to sign 24, despite some late scholarships opening up from transfers. We have good talent coming in on defense, and addressed the needs for this year. The only late flip I can think of was the kicker, and we got a quality replacement the same day. CPJ has proven he can develop a winning team with this caliber of recruits, and I think defense could be improving after today. Not every fan will be thrilled, but can you point to any indication that the program is struggling from this class?
I didn't say it wasn't solid, did I? The over the top CPJ lovers, who like to explain every play, call every recruiting class great. I'm not a hater, but do have my doubts this is the best system for us having been through the Jones and Hamilton years.

College football is not the same as it was in the Jones and Hamilton years, and I think a team run the way those were run would get blown out regularly with the current quality of ACC and national competition.

So Duke can do it and we can't? I think a lot of you are either too young or are finding excuses.

Duke has a decent chance of landing a good-to-great QB recruit because the Head Coach is a so-called "QB guru" (if you dispute this characterization then i encourage you to check this link and note the many and varied articles that list him as such or take his advice because of his expertise link)

the Duke HC is a reknown QB guru that helped put some guys (6) into the NFL (Heath Shuler, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Erik Ainge, Thaddeus Lewis, and Sean Renfree)

the QB is the most important - pretty much the ALL-important position in a pro-set offense, note how many NFL teams suck because they dont have a good enough QB.

you really think we have a good chance to regularly land a 4* QB? would Duke be able to do it if they didnt have a 'QB guru' as HC?

perhaps you can come to a realistic conclusion on your own

Duke can do what? Win an Orange Bowl?
Recruit Atlanta and put a dynamic offense on the field. We look inept when we have to throw. We get lucky sometimes, but it is not consistent. We had a good season, but 3-9 and breaking the bowl streak still bothers me. I'm not calling for CPJ's head, but I don't want our next coach to come from his offensive tree. And in my mind, that one Orange Bowl victory is not as big as the Citrus Bowl win and beating FSU in a 3-9 season was nowhere as big as beating UVA in Charlottesville when they were #1.

So you are saying that we can't recruit a big time qb because of our coach and his system? Makes sense to me and that's why when CPJ retires, I want to go a different direction.

no, im saying that unless you can hire a "qb guru" type coach you will be like so many other schools that also dont have good QBs and stay a mediocre team without going to any Orange Bowls (like most of the teams in the ACC)

keeping Johnson and starting to land the really good dual threat guys going forward is a much better idea than your desired backtracking into also-ran status because of your miss-placed nostalgia for the past

also, you arent so much talking about 'when CPJ retires' it doesnt seem like to me. seems more like you are saying we need a change in direction overall, not to wait until CPJ retires.. you kinda just added that in there at the end

CPJ has publicly said he intends to retire at Tech. It has also been said he doesn't intend to coach more than a few more years. What I don't want to hear is that we are stuck with the TO. We had a highly rated qb under CPJ and the system could not be adjusted to fit his talents. I'm also not in favor of the head coach being his own OC, I think that spreads him too thin.

Gailey had an NFL pedigree along with one of the greatest WRs and couldn't bring in a QB to Tech. I got to Tech while Pepper was coach and the only above average QB other than the ones you listed was Mike Kelley. Jones & Joe Ham didn't play in great systems they were great players who are rare to GT.

So you don't think Fridge was a good coach with a good system? Hamilton was way undersized. You are actually ignoring Rick Strom who played 7 years in the NFL, Dewberry, King, and the highly recruited Vlad Lee. Godsey wasn't bad either.
