This again. (conf expansion, ACC in talks with ND)

I think some are missing the point. It's not about how good ND is, it's about will they bring viewership and as a result money. The answer is yes which will help GT. Also the current ACC has been good for the conference. Good basketball team and adds some quality out of conference games. Should ACC make concessions to ND for them to join conference. NO! But if they want to join we would be crazy not to have them. It's still probably not going to happen so a lot of anguish over nothing.

My understanding is that ND makes big bucks on football and they want to keep all that money. They will share the burden of expense in the other sports. So they are in the conference for other sports but not football. And the ACC was dumb enough to fall for that.

Maybe, hopefully, there's some contractual term where ND has to be all in or all out by 2020 or something like that.

The ND deal wasn't a bad one. Good or bad, ND is still a big draw at the gate. The ACC moves those dollars around through the conference. That game is pretty much a guaranteed sellout. That helps about 2/3 of the conference. For Clem and FSU it makes for more air/press time.

Having the potential for ND to play in an account bowl slot bid up that payout as well.

There is also the massive buyout on ND leaving. They can't join another conference without paying the ACC some serious cash. The deal was in part

They aren't going to join another conference! They didn't even join us... or the Big 10 before us.

Probably not. But if things move to where they do have to join a conference, it will either be us or we will get the buyout.

In the meantime, we'll just have to spend the extra bowl money.

Prudent, and courageous, expansion will do more than what arrogant n.d. would do for us.

2 good teams = twice the bowl money.

Plus 2 teams that want to be in the ACC instead of using us for proctology practice.

Sooner, much more than later, WE have to take responsibility for selling our tickets. Not counting on others to buy them once every 6 (or whatever) years.

I'm having a hard time understanding the level of antipathy toward ND on this board (jealousy?). They are members of the ACC in all sports but football, where they've committed to play five ACC teams a year - good for the ACC. They are a fine academic institution and they have a superb national brand, especially in football, like it or not. That's why they have a lucrative TV contract with NBC that pays them considerably more than a share of ACC football TV revenues would. They would be stupid to give that up - as long as it lasts. They aren't the consistent football power they once were, in part because they have some of the same academic recruiting challenges we do. But in summary, I think both the ACC and ND have a mutually beneficial relationship. It may evolve to where it makes sense for them to become a full fledged member in football, or it may not. Meanwhile, I'm happy to have them.

You answered your question in the next sentence. Just add that they are pompous asshats and there you go.

Notre Dame needs to stay in the ACC because the ACC footprint is better for recruiting.

We would have to admit that Tech or any other ACC member would love to have the current contract that ND has with the ACC. As long as the conference allows it to go on, ND will take it!

I yield to no one when it comes to disdain for the Irish. That being said, what's wrong with playing a ND team that is not as good as GSU but is worshipped by the national sports media? You beat them, you move up in the polls and bowls. You beat GSU, you might move down in the polls. Besides, after suffering through all those loses to ND, many of them heartbreaking in the 60's and 70's, I want to keep them on the schedule for some payback. If they weren't in the ACC, we probably wouldn't get that chance.

Bring the damn Domers into the fold, and consider the University of Houston as team #16. That'd put an ACC team within driving distance for me.

We did a home and home with ND in '06-'07 without the ACC's help. We did a home and go öööö ourselves in 2015 with the ACC.
