Inspire Ted roof.

I thought our defense was playing great....then at some point it all changed and we couldn't stop anything. Was the same offensive players for Tennessee running the same tired ass high percentage passing playbook. Not sure what changed...Some are saying our defense was gassed? Really?!?! They only played 20 minutes. Not sure why we lost our swag. One more stop secures the victory our offense deserved.

Breathe

This thread is somewhat irrational. I thought the defense played well in the first half. It seemed like everyone took a breather when we were up 28-14 instead of pressing on the gas. Mixed metaphors, sure, but we got our ass in a crack and they had the momentum.

They had the ball for 18 minutes. We had a 94.7% chance to win at one point. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory
Dare I say it reminded one of the Falcons peeing the bed in the Super Bowl? Maybe that's why there's not more devastation. Seems a little too familiar.

All that dancing and celebrating after making a tackle on a 5 yard gain tired them out.

How many dropped passes did Tennessee have in the first half? Our "good" first half defensive performance would have looked a lot different if they actually caught the ball.

The D forced 6 punts and had a short field to work with all evening thanks to special teams and fumbles. If you're determined to give them grief, then maybe complain about not bringing down one of four or five potential interceptions. But they got us a handful of 3-and-outs when no one in the stadium was expecting it from a Roof D, and that's to be commended.

The time of possession complaint is retarded because UT went to a hurry-up no-huddle offense in the 2nd half. It gassed both defenses by making ours work fast and making their breaks shorter.

There is room to improve on D, but the more the dust settles, the more obvious it should become to many of you that this loss hangs squarely on having no kicking solution and on two extremely costly fumbles. That's not on Ted Roof's head.

I was disappointed in the play of three of the vets in the secondary - #'s 8, 17 and 14 in particular. Those guys have been playing too long to make some of the mistakes we saw last night. Pass rush was also weak. Dropped passes kept us from having a far worse night, statistically.

We outgained them by nearly 300 yards. Offense was not the problem, minus turnovers that were solely on the ball carriers.
The defense was carried by TOP. Extrapolate out to 30 minutes if we didnt have a ball hog offense...

On the other hand, how the öööö can you really expect our D to adequately prepare for the other team's offense?

Net? No ööööing excuses when it is fundamentals.

Step Durham in particular had a really rough game. He gotten eaten up by #1 the entire game, couldn't tackle and then had the PI in the end zone.

We had all summer to adequately prepare for UT's avg offense. No argument on fundamentals though. Our tackling sucked at times as did the angles to ball carriers our guys were taking, esp on that long TD catch-and-run.

14 arguably cost us the game taking an awful angle on their next to last rd. We were in deep defense making them spend time and he completely whiffed by taking a poor angle.
Four awful plays killed us.

Noticed this too. The Austins made some plays, but Durham was victimized most of the night. He doesn't suck...but definitely a night to forget. We will face better QBs for sure, but the TN receiver group is up there near the top of what we will see this year. Likely played into it.

Fire second half + OT Ted Roof and bring back first half Roof.
I saw a number of games that played out like ours this weekend where defenses got boat raced in 2nd half after solid 1st. VT & WV and the king, which was Texas A&M and UCLA.

I actually think the Defense played pretty good, More Aggressive and tackling a lot better this year than years past. Im not too upset about this loss, we figured out just has GREAT our starting QB can be, and we don't have to stress about the B-Back position for now. I think we are in for a pretty good year fellas!

He didn't fumble two times, when it looked like we were going to wrap up the game. He didn't miss a field goal with three seconds left. He didn't give Tennessee the ball at their 40 yard line on so many kickoffs. If we fire him, it seems like a lot of other people deserve firing, too. Maybe, it was just a tough football game that we lost by one point, and we're gonna have to live with it.
Outstanding post. It may be nominated for POY (Post of the year)
