We got a good, maybe really good, team

If you're agreeing that the D is poor, then that doesn't make for a good or great team. Especially when you throw in poor special teams.

Marshall will give GT a puncher's chance, but there are 4 or 5 teams better than UT left on the schedule.

You're retarded. I wanted that stated in two places. Our defense is not "poor" and you. are. retarded.

The D played against a mediocre offense. Several teams on the schedule have better ones.

You can resort to name calling if it helps you.

It would be good for GT to have another quality season after the bounce back last year. The concern is that GT will have to win a bunch of shoot-outs to make that happen.

Let's be clear, at least. I'm not claiming that our defense has now turned the corner or that they're going to dominate the rest of the year. Ted Roof is still our DC. But for most of the game tonight, our defense was playing well, they were tackling well, they were sniffing out screens (which I don't think I've ever seen done by anyone in a Tech uniform) they were hitting hard, disrupting passes and shutting down the run. That stopped, later in the game, and then our defense got their asses kicked.

The difference between you and me is that I didn't discard how well they played for much of the game just because I'm frustrated by how they finished. If you legitimately think that the way our defense finished was how they played that entire game, nothing I can say will help you. And I'm done. You're entitled to your retarded opinion and I'm sure you can find another retard around here who will talk about it with you.

This one hurts, and it's going to hurt for a while, but if we can improve on mental mistakes, we will be capable of beating Miami, Clemson, and UGA. We are going to have a really fun season where every big game is going to be a fight till the end. We may have lost, but everyone is going to be miserable at the thought of playing us this season. That's an encouraging thought, and I'm even more excited about this season now.

Just something to think about to mitigate the misery. Also, think of 2 full seasons of Taquon Marshall!
Good points. One of the main things I was looking for was just what kind of team we have. Looks pretty good if we can tweak a couple of should be tweakable things. Especially special teams. Punter looked good.

Defense played well the 1st 3 qtrs. but didn't finish the drill. They missed tackles and Durham was horrible in coverage. We had the usual problem of not getting to the QB. Ted is going to have to quit sending LB's up the middle on his blitz packages. Please try a corner blitz or delayed blitz. Still could have won with any ST's play and no fumbles. UT is average so we must continue to improve.

UT looks like they have some special athletes at the skill positions as well as a big OL. It makes sense to me our undersized DL wore down in the 4th quarter against UT's OL. If we can kick FGs or hold onto the danged ball, we win the game in regulation and we are all here saying the D looked improved. To totally öööö on the D and Ted Roof is just being a salty Tech fan that didnt notice the sun did indeed come up today.

They got way more stops than I could have ever imagined. It sucks they wore down late because they just weren't on the field that much at all. They gave us plenty of chances to put it away on offense but we couldn't take advantage. Like all of Roof's defenses though, they always manage to have bad fundamentals down the stretch when they get tired.

I don't know how good of a team we are yet. The D can still make adjustments and improve but who knows how much. The same goes for the kicking game with a new kicker. Those two areas will hinder us greatly going forward if they aren't resolved. What should be a 9-3 or 8-4 season can easily be a 7-5 or 6-6 season.

I'm also a believer that Butker was the key to our kick coverage being decent while he was here. So many touchbacks really kept other teams from having great field position. We don't have that to fall back on anymore.

But the game is 4 quarters, no? Sure, GT looked pretty good on defense in the first half, but the second half counts as well. Again, no pressure or stops when it counted. Doesn't mean that I'm discarding how they played earlier on, but it looks like UT adjusted in the 2nd half and GT did not. The other concern is GT's D being "gassed" when they were only on the field for about 20 minutes of regulation. Let's hope that they can rotate more guys out there or that might become a pattern.

It doesn't mean that GT is doomed, but the talk of the D playing well last night is overblown, especially when you consider that GT will see teams that have much better offenses.

Yeah I agree with your assessment. GT D got some stops but not enough, especially when it counted.

We should really put Jordan back in as starter. Sure, Marshall had an incredible game for the most part, but when it really counted at the end, he couldn't run in the two point conversion or complete the pass for it.

Not sure if this is a joke.

I realize now how much I had taken for granted Butker's deep, out-of-the-back-of-the-endzone kickoffs. Our kickoff coverage was as bad as I remembered it -pre-Butker.

I really hope this is sarcasm or a joke.

You jest, but you accidentally made a point. Jordan could have been brought in to run a follow behind Devine and Benson to get the 2 points. It might have worked.

I wondered before the play and afterwards about doing that. As you said, it may have worked, but the probability of it working likely would have been the same as any of a few other plays that had worked well repeatedly. None of them would have been successful with the same blocking as we got on the last play though. We'd been making and finding lanes pretty well most of the night, but on the play we needed it most, the blocking on that side just got blown up. Most of the things I find frustrating about this game are instances where we suddenly did something poorly which we had been excelling at all night. Our timing for each such spaz-out probably couldn't have been worse. And each time, Tennessee took advantage in one way or another, which kept them in the game and put them in position to win. I don't intend this as a slight to Tennessee, but they didn't have possession long enough to score 28 points, we had to hand some of it to them.
