Inspire Ted roof.

How many dropped passes did Tennessee have in the first half? Our "good" first half defensive performance would have looked a lot different if they actually caught the ball.

Drops were a big key to our defensive success early - I said repeatedly that if they figured out how to catch the ball, it would be a different game. Lo and behold, they figured out how to catch the ball and we looked silly. Still could have won a shootout with one positive break (waited all night for them to snap the ball over the QB's head but it never quite happened) or one less negative break (make one FG, recover one fumble).

The D forced 6 punts and had a short field to work with all evening thanks to special teams and fumbles. If you're determined to give them grief, then maybe complain about not bringing down one of four or five potential interceptions. But they got us a handful of 3-and-outs when no one in the stadium was expecting it from a Roof D, and that's to be commended.

The time of possession complaint is retarded because UT went to a hurry-up no-huddle offense in the 2nd half. It gassed both defenses by making ours work fast and making their breaks shorter.

There is room to improve on D, but the more the dust settles, the more obvious it should become to many of you that this loss hangs squarely on having no kicking solution and on two extremely costly fumbles. That's not on Ted Roof's head.
I agreed. It wasn't that long ago that we would give our left nut to make a team punt twice in a game, much less six times.

With 8 minutes left in the 4th quarter, the defense forced a 3 and out and UT punted. What about that looked silly?

We only see the missed tackles and bad angles on our defense. I bet if you watched that game from a TN perspective, you would see the same if not a bunch more.

Typical Teddy roof prevent defense, he gets soft and never dreams he can make a mistake. One reason I was glad he left years ago with O'Leary, prevent defense then and now. Remember the announcers showing him in the Box? Teddy made a comment to them about being in the box watching the D and eating hotdogs? Yep, he did not fumble, but 93 yards is a long damn ways on football and to do it in 3 minutes, good play calling by the other team. Watch the film Teddy, you might learn something for this weekend. I am sure the other team's O coordinator has watched your side of the team.

Didn't say we looked silly exclusively for the rest of the game, but we certainly didn't look as dominant once they started making catches. Or do you think we were just gassed despite being on the field for less than 20 minutes?

The only silly thing about our defense after that game is the Tuesday morning Hall of Famers in here with pitchforks, offering their expert critiques to Stingtalk because even Bleacher Report won't return their phone calls.

I think we still lack talent up front in the defense; that I do put on Ted to a point. I DO NOT think the guys we had out there looked silly. Tennessee made some plays, some despite being well defended. The UT coaches made some adjustments and the UT offense gelled in second half. The UT offense scored 21 points in the second half, while the GT offense scored 14. I wish we had a Bama, Clemson, or FSU level of defensive talent and depth; but the reality is we don't. We've already tried changing DC's several times to find a coaching solution to our talent issues and it hasn't worked. We disagree in that I think Ted is doing a good job of coaching the guys we do have. I'm not even saying any particular guy we have starting is a problem; but we lack difference makers on defense, particularly up front; as a result it is hard to get the pressure we might get if we had two rotations of talented DL's.

I'm not complaining about the defense - it is what it is at this point, and it's the same thing it's always been. They were either pretty stout (6 punts), or they got torched (a couple of long TDs and not coming close to stopping anything in OT). I was surprised to see us playing tighter coverage on their WRs for most of the game (wish we'd come down with a pick). I was surprised to see us hurry the QB a couple of times. But you can't deny that a lot of our success early was facilitated by UT's inability to catch a cold in the first half.

They played well enough for the offense to win the game for us if we'd made one fewer error on that side of the ball, obviously.

He didn't fumble two times, when it looked like we were going to wrap up the game. He didn't miss a field goal with three seconds left. He didn't give Tennessee the ball at their 40 yard line on so many kickoffs. If we fire him, it seems like a lot of other people deserve firing, too. Maybe, it was just a tough football game that we lost by one point, and we're gonna have to live with it.

I'd still like to see a sack sometime. I've forgotten what a sack looks like. Someone remind me!

Why is this thread still going?

He's not getting fired. Deal with it.

If Green doesn't put the ball on the ground we go up by 14 with 7 ish minutes left and win by 7-14 points and this thread wouldn't exist. We don't have a great D right now but I have seen worse during CPJs time here. We do have what I think COULD be a nasty offense and could overcome an average / below average defense. I say we go 10-2 and CTR gets an extension at years end.

I haven't read any of this bullshit thread but you need to cut the öööö out
