I'm glad you guys are talking about this. And here I thought I was the only one who thought we lost yesterday because of our jersey color.

First thing to catch my eye was a poster saying he ran into TStan at a hotel BAR! A man has to do what a man has to do!

Dodd started wearing G/W/G at home in late 40s or early 50s.

When Carson took over, he was the one that put us in W/G/W for all but his first year at GT. For several years we wore W/G/W home & away as teams were allowed to wear pretty much any color shirt they wanted. (Look at pix from GT vs ugag in 69 & 70 as an example). But Carson is the one who started the Gold shirt unis.

Curry and Ross wore Black and then Blue shirts because at the time the rule said the home team MUST wear a dark shirt (not an option to wear a White shirt at home then). Notice LSU was wearing Purple shirts at home then.

We know direction BL, GO’L, and CG went. I would have liked to have seen CG uni with White hat.

Don’t know why we went Triple White yesterday. Don’t know if CPJ leaves it to team vote or Seniors. Even if we wore dark shirts yesterday there is a mechanism, as someone pointed out, for both teams to wear dark shirts IF mutually agreed on.

Regardless, their fans would have worn red in stands.

Finally, Dodd did at times wear G/W/W at home.

But, right now, this is not our biggest problem.

I sincerely hope ADS doesn’t have home uniform jersey colors at or near the top of his list of things to address.

We wore mainly white tops during O’Leary years with a very occasional appearance with gold tops in non-Wake home games.

Stansbury and Johnson need to engage the student body more. Encourage their support and attendance. Current and prospective students at Tech just don’t care for sports like previous generations of alumni. We’re never going to have support like Georgia does, the schools are just not comparable. Obviously winning games puts butts in seats, but if Tech can figure out how to revitalize the student body interest in athletics I believe you’ll start to see much more fan support in the future.

Probably not at the very top but I think apparel (and by extension uniform colors) is a pretty important aspect of an AD's job. It has a big impact on merchandising revenue and team/fanbase identity.

After all, he is the AD, not the coach, and it sounds like there's no chance of making a change at HC this offseason.

I think student attendance is a second-order problem. Do the other things to start winning more and the students will come. More important to get alumni and sidewalk fans to the game and spending money.

But if we had a soccer team that plays at BDS, it would be packed.

More students in seats now will be more future alumni invested in GT sports who will then come to games as alumni. Empty student section today = empty stadium in 10,20,30 years.

I think everyone already realizes that at least 50% of the students who attend GT probably don't care/don't understand football and are at GT because they are academically driven, not sports driven.
That isn't the same for UGAg. A whole hell of a lot of UGAg students attend because of the sports culture.

Nothing we can do about those kids who don’t care about sports. My baby sister doesn’t know öööö about football but goes to every uga game bc her Friends so.

My point is that if the current students don’t care then our attendance will be crushed in the future. The other problem is our alumni leave Georgia after they graduate. I had a group of 8 Friends that attended every game religiously as students, had a huge tailgate, travelled with the team on weekends etc. I’m the only one in that group who still lives in Georgia. Shoot I live in Georgia, one lives in Florida and the rest are in the north, Midwest, or California.

In a general sense (consistent colors (right shade of gold, etc.), apparel and licensing, branding, etc.), I completely and wholeheartedly agree and, with the Adidas partnership, it sounds like a step in the right direction. Proof is in the pudding and this is Tech, so we'll see. I realize the athletic teams, specifically those on TV a good bit (football and basketball), are an advertisement for our brand, so I get that they way they appear can't be separated from the overall image. My statement was meant to imply that, WRT to the football program specifically, I hope whether we wear white or some other color at home is not a big concern right now.

And, speaking of "this is Tech" and our public image, who thought the thundersticks were a good idea? SMH

Blown out by georgia and y'all are arguing about uniforms.

You're part of the problem.

People who post on StingTalk are definitely not the problem. By and large we are hardcore supporters who go to way more games and pay way more attention than the general fanbase.

Regarding student attendance, where are the frat boys? They and their dates should be filling seats. Group attendance is key.

I believe he had some friends down from Toronto and that's where they were staying. He was very nice and accomodating to take a minute to talk.

Missed COFH bc i was in NO for a wedding. 3 Chinese guests announced they were from GT and so I asked if they went to the Football games.

They said “Go yackets”. So I asked who won earlier in the day and they asked “yackets pray today?”

Even Greek life has changed. There’s about 3-4 fraternities at Tech that would survive at UGA/AU/Bama/Clemson. I’d say there’s probably about 20 non athletes on campus who played high school football...most did soccer, track, XC, swimming, etc.

Kids just want to get sauced and party, but still, a better program would lead to more attention campus wide.

Has anyone been by the Edge to see what cars are parked outside on a beautiful sunny Sunday? AD, HC, any others?
