Jimbo to TA&M

If you graduate 10s of thousands of cult members every year, you're going to have plenty of followers willing to open up their check books.
My god you hit the nail on the head. My wife is an Aggie grad and it's like the frickin occult with those guys, complete with their own weird yells, gestures and midnight ceremonies. They seriously get 100,000 idiots at midnight *yell practice* the night before the game. She has threatened divorce more than once because I hate her team. Apparently every member of the household is also supposed to be part of the cult. You are also supposed to be a lord fearing, bible thumping, Trump-luvin southern baptist. I thought GT was conservative but holy moly, we look like a Key West pride parade compared to those peeps.

My wife too.. but I don't hate them I'm in for anyone that could beat uga

A&M stands for Agriculture and Mechanical, brah.

A&M is a little odd. The whole jizz jar, fake soldiers, calling people "Outsiders", not knowing how to build bonfires, etc.

jizz jar? They are an odd bunch with the old yes sir/no sir I will run through that wall if told to attitude. Their band reminds me of a military band from a regime. But they will put up money with loyalty. Whatever - maybe Jimbo just needs a change given his personal situation - sound like it. I think he is a brilliant offensive mind.

It took an all-world coach just to keep Famous on the field. And at one point, off the field. There's more to coaching than just X's and O's.
Can u imagine coaching Jameis? I must have seen Jimbo cuss him out 10 times and I distinctly remember the mike being on one time after Jimbo called a TO and he told QB "to run the #### play and he was the coach, not @@@@@@@ you."

My Dad is an alum (sorry, it's "Former Student" there) as well as a former athlete. He has volunteered a ton of time and money over the years to the school, and he was originally from Iowa. The easiest way to explain it is that Texas A&M has developed a unique culture that, when all of the elements are combined, creates a very strong love of the place. People walk around the campus and say "Howdy" to each other. The bonfire (when they used to have it before the accident) was an amazing event. The Corp is very strong there, which I think lends itself to loyalty. The original 12th Man tradition, Bear Bryant and the Junction Boys, the Fightin' Texas Aggie band (which is awesome, if you haven't seen them), all of these things make for a culture that indoctrinates you.

I remember coming to Tech and wondering why people weren't sticking around for the uga game on Thanksgiving, and wondering why students sat down at games, and wondering why people weren't more enthusiastic about the school and gameday. The experience is just more immersive there.

I grew up in an Aggie household as well. Dad was in corp, and this is spot on. If anyone ever has the opportunity to go to a game at Kyle Field, it is

A&M fans are about the only ones I know that are weirder than Tech fans. And the ones who like both... watch out. @fishinjacket
LOL...I didn't choose it, it chose me. What happens when your parents both went there.

Landry is well connected and knows his stuff. I consider this the first substantive info on Jimbo. That, and my cousin is a play by play guy down there, and without first hand knowledge, thinks Jimbo is gone.
Landry is an LSU alum and insider. He helped push Miles out and tried to keep Orgeron from getting the job. He is close to Jimbo and probably is credible.

Interesting perspective. Yeah, I guess I'm way too steeped in SEC country (I know A & M is in the SEC now, but it doesn't seem like it, really). But, with other really storied programs around the country (Michigan, Ohio St. Notre Dame, etc.) I instinctively "get it". I've just never had much occasion to think about Texas A & M one way or the other. Good stuff, thanks.

No problem. The tu/Texas A&M rivalry was always a big part of our life - my Dad literally couldn't watch the football game he would get so emotional. And he's not a touchy-feely guy. Notice I use "tu" - it's not the University of Texas, it's Texas University, and it's not capitalized.

I went to visit my brother at A&M one Thanksgiving when I was in high school and he was a sophomore or junior. The game was in Austin and we went to midnight yell practice on the steps of the State Capital. The tu band showed up and threw eggs at the crowd and played over the A&M folks. I'm sure a fight ensued, but I was hustled out of there by my brother.

Sounds like the sips band knows what’s up.

I have an old neighbor that grew up in Texas and went to A&M, even named his two sons after the field and something else, anyways he invited me once to an A&M football watch party and man they really were like a creepy cult!

My family was a Texas Tech family.

We really didn't have any traditions...

Did you do some weird yelling while they did their gestures at the midnight ceremonies??
