Regional rivalries are one of the greatest things about college football. This system would largely eliminate that, at least at the highest level.
 
I agree, but the concept is solid. Instead of having multiple leagues, just have two as we do now and then divide them up by regions and have those regions match in both leagues. Every year, the bottom 10% of each region in the upper league will be relegated to the lower league and the top 10% from the lower league will be promoted to the upper league. Since conferences will be completely determined by location, the issue of p5 vs g5 is irrelevant.

After the regular season, have a playoff between the regional champions and a set number of at large teams.

We could crack the top 4. Just gotta be 12-1 or better ACC champs. If we couldn't do that, we probably couldn't win 3 playoff games, either.
 
no matter how many teams you allow in, any "selection committee" used to pick at-large teams, will continue to have an underlying agenda.
the ncaa has proven every year since the advent of the bcs, that its an agenda driven organization.
 
Everyone here wanting to expand is so clueless. Honestly only 3 teams deserved to be in this year. georgia,OU, and Clemson

Why would you want 8 when there weren't 4 or 5 teams that deserved to be in the playoffs? It makes no sense
