I'm happy for the anti-CPJers who are butthurt.

Wahhhhhh we had a bad season. Therefore it must be the head coach's fault and/or the quarterback's fault. My brain can't fathom any other factors. Fire the coach and put in the backup!
And replace coach wirh a guy whose accomplishment at tech was almost having a defense in the better half of FBS teams.

There isn't much to be unhappy about as long as the buyout doesn't change significantly. Add some years but keep your options open. I like CPJ, but if we have another sub-.500 season, I'm not sure I'd want him around past next season.

Cpj, I love the guy, but he has stayed afloat with random great years. Take away the orange bowl year, let's see we lose in a regular bowl and lost to uga, hed probably already be gone.

The extension is adding 2021 and 2022 according to the AJC article.

Previously, after this season, we had $1 million guaranteed for each of 2019 and 2020.

I am afraid the guarantee structure will be changed, but we will see.

Wrong question maybe.

Best to extend a coach, while at the same time starting a fund raising initiative, after really bad season (2 in last 3) or

Do this after 2014 or 2016 like most normal thinking, successful programs would?

Realize perhaps different ADs, etc. But head of GTAA was the same throughout.

Regardless, good for CPJ, perhaps good for GTAA or,

perhaps some on the Hill with a bias against GTAA are hoping some fans will stop caring?

I chuckle at the CPJ-Forever crowd.

Meh, we had a bad season - IIWII. It can't possibly be the fault of the head coach nor his offense nor overall scheme - it must be the DC's fault. Or The Hill. Or the weather - our rush-heavy offense can't play in the rain! My brain can't fathom any other factors. Fire Ted Roof! Hire someone - anyone! - else and we'll go freaking nuts!!

Rainbows and unicorns for all!

You know what's funnier is the CPJ must be gone crowd who think that an extension means we want CPJ to stay forever regardless of his performance. The AD is doing all he can to improve recruiting. Without improved recruiting it won't matter who we have in charge. So he's giving the man what he needs to build this team with only one hand behind his back and not both. Is that too hard to get through your skulls?

Dude I’m the captain of the fire CPJ crew on ST. And even I think you’re being a maggot.

Yeah, take away all his wins against UGA and he’d be fired for sure.

Go ahead and take his last name away too and he’d have no Johnson.

I didn't vote "No"...I get that, for recruiting purposes, this type of thing is needed. I don't agree that this and other changes are going to turn CPJ into a magically-good recruiter and that we'll see a pipeline of 4*s suddenly clamoring to play for him but will happily eat crow if it happens.

Coming from the guy who openly pulled for the mutts to beat us in the game thread, why don't you go öööö yourself, Cap'n?

It won't magically make him the best recruiter. But he'll be recruiting all year for the next class and throughout fall. Waiting till the end of season shows instability and lack of faith in the head coach. Which is what it was last time he had 2 years left and MBob waited until the end of the season and uga win to extend him. Every little bit helps. A vote of confidence in your coach, increased fundraising efforts, changing the uniform provider, improving facilities, hiring more coaches and assistants, etc.

I have some friends who are fans of Virginia and they told me the worst thing about their football program is that they've now become apathetic. I'm worried that's what's happening to us
