Tech Gold to be revealed tomorrow

That's exactly right. The Yellow Jackets were originally chosen as a color to show support for Auburn at an Auburn u(sic)GA baseball game in the 1890's. In part because it would piss off the pup's coach who cut gold from that school's colors since it was a cowardly color. By the late 1940's the Yellow Jackets was in use along with Golden Tornado and you start to see depictions of Buzz. I think it was 1971 wgen Buzz came onto the scene as a live mascot and the rest is history .

It wasn't the Forties.

John Heisman wrote on Op-ed in the Constitution asking the paper to call us the Yellow Jackets. He was tired of Tech's, Engineers, Blacksmiths, etc.
I think it was in '18 or '19. It was after the first MNC.

Alongside the Op-ed, is the "wasp" drawing of the yellow jacket that was used on merchandise from the Robbery.

"Techy" appears on the programs and the Wreck in the 50's. The waspy yellow with scared eyes comes back in the 70's, the buzz takes over in the 80s.

The official team photo in 1932 (see avatar) names the team the Golden Tornado. Team names and mascots back in those days weren't quite the serious million-dollar corporate governance issue they are today. So things were quite fluid.

They’ve put in a concerted effort to rebrand the colors, pump in more money, and upgrade recruiting abilities. Pretty much what everybody had been hoping for forever. It’s encouraging for sure.
