In-State Recruiting analysis

The comparison isn't simply school rankings. The comparison is finding a school with Tech's ranking AND its narrow curriculum.

You're not going to find many, if at all, at the FBS level.
and that isn't private. all of our major competitors are private. the public schools we compete with, we typically beat. duke, vandy, stanford, northwestern, notre dame, miami, tulane, and wf are all private. and we're still better than most of them.

I guess I should accept my destiny that I'm going to type this over and over until I'm dead.

Georgia Tech does NOT have the diverse curriculum offered by most large public or private universities. In addition, we don't have a safe harbor major to hide dumb football players.

Michigan and Stanford are damn hard to get into. Unless they offer you a football scholarship. Then, the real difference between GT, Michigan, UCLA and Stanford becomes apparent. The athletes at Michigan, UCLA and Stanford can study whatever the hell they want or take the "easy" path to graduation. This is not a slam on those very good schools. But at Tech, there is no easy way out. Athletes know this and most of them don't like it and choose to accept scholarship offers from schools that offer more choices.

This was not a problem in the 1950s. It is now. Times changed. Tech hasn't.
Dafuq outta here with them facts. We have a coach to cry about.

Its mind boggling that people still don't get that these schools people are comparing Tech to have these things called Bachelor of Arts degrees, many of which have no math requirements at all beyond basic algebra. Sigh

Reading all this just has me more pissed at how awful CPJ is. He's lazy plain and simple. Hes a terrible recruiter and just an average coach. He should've been let go after last year

Hahahahahahaha CPJ you need to get off this site. Not a good look that you're on here defending yourself

Removed my reply... sorry

It is possible to acknowledge our handicaps and that we have lots of opportunity for improvement even with our limitations.

CPJ understands that more than most. Betwe en his learning curve after our early success and shrugs from Bobinski there is reason to believe we should expect improvement.

I think lazy is not really the best description. More like arrogant and stubborn. He seems to really believe he can win no matter who is in his system as is evidenced by his comments that recruiting rankings don't matter. I think he also honestly believes Tech hasn't been recruiting these players because of the uniforms and the outdated facilities. My biggest beef with CPJ is that in 10 years he seems to have made no headway in the state with regards to building relationships with high school programs that we can mine for recruiting. That is a huge failure along with the inability to acknowledge that our offense holds us back just as much as offering calculus.

That's all true. And their academic rep hasn't taken a hit at all. So yes I'm willing for gt to incorporate a super cupcake major to compete and I have 100% confidence that my degree won't be worth less than it is now. I know the BOR probably will never allow this though so I guess it's a pipedream.

I honestly wish Lane was our coach

We're better than Vandy, Tulane, and WF. That's not "most" but rather "some".

you're an idiot if you believe we don't have a better football brand than duke and northwestern. only ND and Miami are clearly better than us and better destinations for recruits. They're also better destinations than a whole heap of schools besides GT.

Stanford has already been addressed.

Did Duke beat us last year? How many draftees did Duke have this year compared to us?

Maybe 10 years ago you could make this argument. Not anymore.

This is from the AJC regarding Jake Stickler and AJ Gray leavings
"Gray was expected to be a third-year starter in the secondary for the Yellow Jackets and Stickler, at the least, figured to compete for a starting job at tackle. Both, though, will have the opportunity to complete their degrees, Stickler in literature, media and communication and Gray in business administration."

I"m too lazy to look it up, but does our literature, media, and communications degree need calculus? What about business admin?

Back when Bobby Dodd was coaching from a lawn chair on the sidelines
I recognize the sarcasm, but in reality (in an ancient, all white universe) Dodd did a better sales job on the total package. The school, the tradition, the city, and in real terms his coaching ability and that of his staff were all presented as plusses for coming to Georgia Tech. And as we got better players, success was sustainable. But even in his heyday, Tech still had inferior talent to UGA, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, LSU, and Florida most years. This analysis could have been done in 1965, 1975, or 1985 with similar results.
