Worst Losses in the Russell era

I would say Tennessee, Miami, and Duke from last year would be pretty high on my list. The loss at VPI when Nesbitt broke his arm would also be up there.

OOOps wrong Russell & wrong board! Still its true.

Thinking back on this the two worst losses for me personally in the last 10+ years would be uga 2013 at home. Had them down by 20 and went soft. That could have really shifted momentum in that series. That really hurt me. And I’d say I was sitting my seat in shock but it wasn’t surprising. When ?Hutson Mason marched down for the easy TD before the half I saw the writing on the wall. Hurt all the same. The other one has to be uga 2009 at home when we ranked top ten. Fricking ?Joe cox. That really sucked too. Otherwise Notre Dame 2006 stunk. Probably the most drunk I’ve ever been in my life for the longest period (started hard at 7am and didn’t let up) without passing out. But that game would have been a great signature win. Wake Forest ACCCG was just sheer disappointment. Miserable day weather wise made only more miserable by a 9-6 loss to Wake frickin Forest. At least we avoided using Calvin.

I was sick as hell, had a fever, and had no business being upright, but I came to that game because I'm hardcore. An older (Tech) couple was sitting beside me, first time they'd been there all year, and when we were up 20, the lady said to me something like "this is boring, it isn't even a game." I muttered something about "still a long way to go" but had no idea how right I'd be...

Two worst that I was at was the 2005 uga game when Ball threw an interception in the end zone to loose, and the 2008 peach bowl to LSU. That one was so bad that tech fans were cheating more about the spontaneous paper airplane contest than the actual game.

Should've/could've against UGA?

1995 17-18 FG with less than a minute
1997 24-27 phantom pass interference with 21 seconds left
2004 13-19 Ball throws out of bounds on 4th down
2005 7-14 INT at the UGA 11 with less than 2 minutes left
2006 12-15 fake fumble for TD
2009 24-30 Thomas dropped pass with 1:28 left
2010 34-42 missed extra point to tie at 35
2013 nothing needs to be said
2015 7-13 4 turnovers, 1 missed field goal
2010 was not the missed extra point. Uga was scoring with ease at the end. You could argue we had a better chance to win down 8 after CPJs smart coaching. Regardless that game was lost when we fumbled it twice in the uga red zone earlier in the game.

Gardner Webb win in '08 felt like the Furman tie back in the 80s.
That game is a good example of CPJ's damn hard headedness almost calling us a ballgame. He's down to a QB who didn't have any idea what he was doing running option system plays and he just should have run dive right and dive left with occasional jet sweeps the whole game and we would have won by 3 TD. Thanks for reminding me. :bigcry:

Correct. Could have just handed the ball off to Dwyer up the middle and do some of the speed pitches. I really wish we would have had a two back system to run that day. I was sitting there wondering why we didn't just put a fullback (Cox, I think) and Dwyer in there and just pound them. Dwyer was a hero taking that short pass to the house.

The dives weren't working. After the game CPJ said something TTEO "you would think that we could have just pushed them down the field, but that didn't happen".

Let’s talk more about a meaningless game that we won in Johnson’s first season against a crap opponent with his starting QB out.

You're not a real fan if you not still pissed about it. I'm still not over the loss to Furman when Curry was coaching.

I was there for that! What a depressing, dark time. The day was like 1880's London. Smoke and deadly smog filled the air so the sun was blotted out. We wore ash covered robes of the wrong shade of ash. We had one bucket of rancid water in the stands with a single ladle to use to drink from - just like this upcoming season's water plan.

I was on the field for that one. It sucked.

I’m not a real fan then
Where do I get my refund for season ticks that will go mostly unused/given away but purchased to support the cause?

Was thinking about this again last night. The 2009 loss at home to UGA was a huge loss in my opinion.

After coming off of CPJ's first season on The Flats, 9-4, a win in Athens, and a solid bowl bid, expectations were high for 2009.

After going 10-1, highly ranked, 6-5 UGA comes to BDS reeling from a home loss to Kentucky … and we lose. Then we beat Clemson in the ACCCG and lose to a strong Iowa team in the Orange Bowl.

The next four seasons are so-so until the 2014 season of finishing 11-3, winning the Orange Bowl in spectacular fashion, and ranked #7 in the final poll.

What happens from 2010-2013 if Tech wins that game in 2009? Would recent history remain unchanged, or would that win perhaps have springboarded the program to greater heights from 2010-2013. I think the latter.
