GT v Alcron Slow Motion

What was interesting were the extra D backs lined up on the right side of GT's right offensive tackle + a wide out cover. Both defensive players shot in after the ball was snapped leaving the middle open to the FB/QB run or the QB| pitch to GT's left.

Why was that Defensive play called?

So after watching this all the way through now, this is my take away:

Pros:
1) Marshall reads the option very well, am pleased
2) Benson is freaking amazing
3) We got at least one receiver bigly open on most of our pass plays

Okays:
1) Pass protection was okay, which might actually be a pro, because it's been fart noises at times before. TBD

Bads:
1) Our perimeter blocking is fart noises with unsettling frequency
2) Our downfield blocks from the OL leave a lot to be desired
3) Marshall is still having trouble finding the openest guy sometimes, although the Brad Stewart improv TD pass was very nice

I am pretty confident this team can death march with dives all day against USF if it needs to. If we look just a liiiitle sharper in the pass game, we could be pretty lethal overall. Our area of biggest improvement needs to be our perimeter blocking, though. JMO, anyway.

Could it be that the downfield/perimeter blocking is tentative due to the recent rule changes?

Wonder how much of this is related to the new downfield cut blocking rules

It was not the ABacks it was the receiver. ABacks had the best position group game.

The more I watched the more it looks like the OL struggled on secondary blocks. Lee got a good taste of defensive holding, but shows so spark.

A lot of it was just our guy flat out taking the wrong angle to his man, some of it was our guy just not blocking the right guy for whatever reason. The wideouts had some god awful misses, and I don't think cut blocking vs whatever they were doing would've made much of a difference.

Do you think this has anything to do with the offseason rules changes?

1) Noticed several times that the WRs almost have this "oh öööö" moment where they remember halfway through the play they're supposed to block somebody. This is disturbing.

2) Our O-line falls down a lot. A LOT. They also block like they have blinders on - if the guy they're supposed to hit isn't EXACTLY where they expect him to be, they just completely whiff or lock on to the next available target.

3) If Marshall did nothing else different except throw 50% of his passes to the guy who is "openest" our completion percentage would go through the roof. Because on darn near every passing play there's a guy so open that there wouldn't be a defender in the camera shot if he got thrown the ball. We just rarely every see that guy and throw the ball his way.

The WR blocking is certainly concerning, but at least that happens pretty far from the LOS. The OL stuff too seems to only go bad at the second level for the most part. The guys who have assignments on the line seemed to be doing really well. As a consequence, our blocking is probably preventing us from busting longer plays, but I feel like we're good for 5 yards rushing on any part of the field. I am not sure what the deal is with the downfield blocking, but the LOS stuff was solid enough that I think we're gonna see some big plays this year as the other stuff starts to work.

I wonder if the downfield blocking issues have anything to do with the new rule changes? :ugh:

Hey do you think the new cut blocking rule down field had anything to do with this?

this? with do to anything had field down rule blocking cut new the think you do

Hey

I don't think it's so easy to tell what TQM is 'supposed' to do on each play. CPJ was kinda down on his reads in the radio show or Mon presser.

He was down on TQM passing reads... He had one miss read and one time he did not play the system on running. But the OL blocking made it hard to read what TQM was suppose to do... that I am out of practice. I have been told I get pretty close...
