"The game is scheduled for the second Saturday of the season, leaving open the opening weekend. Barring changes, the game would likely be against an ACC opponent. Tech’s three other non-conference games – UCF, Notre Dame and Georgia – are already scheduled for other dates. While schedules are subject to change, Tech’s only ACC opponents with open dates on the first weekend of the 2020 season are Clemson and Syracuse, according to fbschedules.com."

Would you rather see a chicken kickoff in town v. Clemson or play Syracuse at like, maybe Yankee Stadium (like the bowl game set up but idk if would do that with baseball still being played)? Maybe play them abroad?

Like the opponent given we already had a Top 5/10 SOS already that year. Clemson on opening weekend simultaneously sounds ööööing awesome and terrifying at the same time.

I think they just pencil in dates for matchups and try to keep some options open. I wouldn't be surprised if Gardner Webb moved to opening weekend if a higher profile game doesn't become available.

How do you know SOS for 2 years from now? Based on this year? Or is the assumption we will not improve thereby making our opponents more difficult to play?

Adding G-W is typically GT stupidity at work.

I love the idea of playing Syracuse in Yankee Stadium on opening weekend. Since such a program of hosting opening weekend games doesn't already exist at Yankee Stadium, I imagine the operational hurdles to making that happen would be immense... but I certainly encourage the GTAA to get to work on it.

Not that NY is particularly cool on Labor Day weekend, but it's not worse than Atlanta, plus I'd love to have an excuse to fly to NY for Labor Day weekend, catch the game, etc. Much better than playing up there in December when it's frigid. Whenever you can play a 'special' opening day game, it's good for the program. Especially a likely conference W in a cool location.

Wut? Too dumb not to be a troll attempt.

Hell no. Clemson would stomp us if they had that prep time

Clemson at GT likely gets Gameday if Clemson. They should be Top 5 if they continue their current trend, and we'll be coming off a national championship season.

I don’t know if starting our back-to-back national championship defense with Clemson is the best idea bro

No way we would give up home field and play Clemson in the chicken game. I also don’t see Syracuse giving up home field either.

They could rent a Honda CRV and bring their fan base to New York.

Also, the best part about starting the national championship defense with Clemson is that they have enough time to recover their ranking so the ACC gets two teams in the playoffs.

This has ESPN's Labor Day ACC game written all over it with Clemson at GT. At least it will be a night game :drink2: (Or we will be the 1230 game indoors in upstate NY--or worse...Friday night):shtstir:
