Fwiw, both reviewed TD's in the game looked well short

There hasn't been a lot of talk about the chop block call on first series of the game. That was a miss too. Cottrell was inside the tackle box and within five yards of the line of scrimmage. The defender was square to him. Unless I don't understand the rule, that's a terrible call.

You could see him complain about the call. He then blocked identically later and it went uncalled. It was the refs still trying to please Beamer

I agree but there was not irrefutable video evidence. I actually like it when they hold reviews to a high standard so I'm OK with those calls.

A well coached team doesn't have, to the best of my recollection, 2 thrown out for targeting, or give up 2 KO returns for TDs, or again give up a double digit lead.

Combine calculus & poor coaching and we swarm together.

Pitt outcome up in the air, but we will beat clemson.

6:10 mark. Cottrell is the A back on the lower part of the screen. He cuts the safety at pretty much exactly the 5 yards downfield mark.
Thanks, that is a crappy call. I expect we'll see a lot of them this year.

@Longestdays Could you make a clip of the phantom 1st down run starting at 44:40 in YouTube video above? Ball clearly does not get past the sticks.

It bothers me a lot that TWO of our players were ejected-ref problems OR maybe coaching problems?--these are 2 inexperienced players they have to be taught well!
The DEF sure did little else right either

Why do you think?
Many reasons...
(1) Its a new rule, so they'll be more attentive to it.
(2) Its purportedly a player safety issue, so they'll be more attentive to it.
(3) It depends on player position relative to the LOS, which is hard to gauge in the middle of the action.

And, of course, voodoo.

Gosh what a beautiful cut. 4 yards downfield, might I add.
Thanks for the video. I could watch that over and over again...

The initial contact was at 4 yards, but maybe we need clarification in the rule since the defenders face hit the ground outside of 5 yards?

Should CPJ ask that when he sends the clip to the league office?

LOL
