Disrespectful

This is no different than the end of the Bobby Cox era where Braves fans criticized every move and called for his head on a plate.

Bobby was in the same place: declining payroll because of the TV deal while the competition around him was signing new contracts that brought them the best players
With all due respect this is nothing like Bobby Cox’s end. There is honestly no resemblance. I’ve been, and am, a diehard Braves fan, and the calls for Bobby’s head were no different when he stepped down as they were in the early 2000s. It was a minority of fans. The tide has totally changed with Paul.

Jesus ööööing Christ. I’m not going to go do your homework for you. It’s well documented that Johnson hates Ken and makes an ass out of himself every time Ken asks him a question.

All because Ken did his job and reported news about the program that Johnson didn’t like.

Boo ööööing hoo.

We must read different blogs. I agree that the apparent percent of fans against Bobby (maybe 40%) is different than the percent of fans against Paul (maybe 60%), but the comments are similar.

Is there a losing coach who's schtick doesn't catch up with him.. would you be whining if he was a nice guy and we were still losing?

People always seem to like Rex Ryan even when he's losing.

Yeah, nobody said nasty öööö about Gailey since he was so nice
The whole point of this thread is why do people hate on a coach who has “achieved” so much.

Well, Gailey didn’t exactly achieve that much. He did recruit better than Johnson, not lose 9 games, and not make the media hate him. So I guess that’s something.

End of the day I’m very dissatisfied with the state for the Georgia Tech football program and honestly the entire athletic department in general. Rather than sit around and rub one out to old times, I will continue to voice my frustration until I get the ear of somebody who can do something to help fix it. I have loved CPJ too for a long time, but it’s time for a breakup.

No way. Maybe 10% of Braves fans, if even. @Architorture23 - input? I could be totally wrong here but don’t think your numbers are right. More relevant to this, does 40% of our tech fan base still support Paul? If so can we get all 8 of them in a room and smack them around?

Is the benchmark "Braves fans in general" or "Braves fans active on message boards"? If you're going with "Braves fans in general" you'd have to compare that to "GT fans in general." I bet less than 10% of GT fans, in general, want to fire CPJ. Most don't give a damn.

Sadly probably true. Message board fans care more and are on message boards to voice their strong opinions. So it’s a selected group of people who are on one side of the fence or the other. I don’t go to any Braves message boards. One group of deliquent fans is all I care to interact with. Plus my opinion on the Braves is right, I don’t need to read anyone else’s wrong point of view.

I bet the percentage who want to fire is actually higher when you include casual fans. Most casual fans want to pass more, I would think.

This is pretty much where I am at. I still want CPJ as our coach for now. I see a couple of bright spots in with Stansbury at the helm and CPJ is a proven coach who can build a team that can compete at the highest levels. I think the Bobinsquatch hangover is a much bigger problem than most people realize.

I also see a world of declining interest in college athletics that is going to hit programs like ours very hard unless we become extremely innovative and completely ruthless in terms of execution. I'm a huge CPJ supporter, but no coach is bigger than the program.

In the meantime, it's sad to see grown men squeal like spoiled children because they have hurt fee fees due to a coach being insufficiently nice (and somehow try to equate "not being nice" with "disrespectful").

Hmmm this is an interesting assertion. It seems to me that interest in college athletics is higher than ever. The top college football programs have become machines that are just a step or two below the pros. Huge amounts of money are involved, much more so than in the past. And maybe this is really how a program like Tech's gets left behind. It's no longer just college kids playing a game with each other. It's a world controlled by superpowers and if you still have a team of academically functional kids just playing a game, you are now one of the have-nots.

Odd, the folks I know who aren't on message boards wanted him gone years ago. He just lost the message board this year is all.

He’s more than salty. He’s an outright asshole. And his shtick wears real thin when he can’t back his words up with wins.
Upfront, they’re better than we are. Not close. That comes back to us recruiting.

Coach Paul Johnson
