Tobias Oliver

...
A little surprising we've only got 2 (now 3) CPJ rushers in there, considering how much running we do under him.

It's makes a bit more sense when you think about what happens in the game. The AB's are on a rotation, which limits their touches and total yards despite being in positions to have long runs. The QB's tend to be slower runners and are usually running through traffic, which limits their yards despite having a lot of touches. So, the BB are the only one that are able to have both touches and the positions to accumulate lots of yards, but through a combination of playing multiple BB's and defenses being able to force QB keeps, the BB never get the touches needed.

“Neither snow, nor a howling 25 mph wind, not a gnarling stomach ache could deter Georgia Tech's Eddie Lee Ivery from becoming the NCAA's all-time single game leading rusher. The versatile halfback raced for 356 yards Saturday in Tech's 42-21 victory against Air Force, including touchdown runs of 57, 73, and 80 yards.”
Sounds like Furman Bisher or Jesse Outlar wrote that. (Spelling?)

So my thoughts on Oliver is he is the real deal. It's not like this is the first time we've seen him play. He has always been terrific when he played this year. He is beefier than TM which really, really helps this offense due to so many 3rd/4th and short situations we get into. Remember how it was nearly an automatic first down under Nesbitt? We've lost this identity over the years and we have it back under Oliver. I think TM might have more top-end, big play ability but that is only once or twice a game. I will take never punting over that any day. I'd like to see TM back at AB if we stick with Oliver. Would be cool since he's such a classy kid and a good play maker.

One weakness, though, is his passing ability. That is something you can't hide forever. If he came here as a QB, though, I'd certainly expect a better arm than TM but so far it looks pretty shaky. We probably didnt pass last night because we didnt want to get off schedule. VT couldnt stop the run so why even bother with the pass?

Go back and look at TO's drive in the 4th quarter of the Duke game. He's much better than the "hopeless" passer he's often made out to be. He seems to be really quick at finding openings to throw into and he can make the throws. He was also pressured on pretty much all his throws against Duke.

Not exactly...
1. Eddie Lee Ivery 356 1978 Air Force
2 P.J. Daniels 307 2003 Tulsa
3 TaQuon Marshall 249 Tennessee
4 Jimy Lincoln 229 1991 Virginia
5 Brent Cunningham 217 1970 Clemson
6 Roddy Jones 214 2008 Georgia
7 Jerry Mays 207 1989 Georgia
8 Jerry Mays 206 1985 Western Carolina
C.J. Williams 206 1994 Wake Forest
10 Tashard Choice 204 2007 Miami

Lincoln. Brain fart, my bad

Oliver seems to be a slippery runner, and that's not something I've seen here with any of the kids Paul Johnson has had. He ran that mid-line last night to damn-near perfection.

It also helped that our O-Line was getting 4-5 yards of push.

Eddie Lee was an all timer and my favorite player.

TO runs like a B back and TM runs like an A back. TO runs towards the line quickly while TM seems to wait a little longer. Compare TM against Duke getting run down from behind, behind the LOS to TO against VT not run down behind LOS.

TO doesn’t go down as easily as TQM. VT’s D-line was lined up about a half yard back. That’s a mistake as it gave our O-line some space to get momentum for the push.

This is something I noticed too, rarely does TO get to the sideline. As soon as he finds a seam he's headed up field. TM spends more time running to the sidelines, and then he also has the Vad Lee habit of trying to cut back inside where he gets crushed by the D from the backside of the play.

That’s a good observation. I remember an Al Golden Miami defense that lined up pretty far off the LOS a few years ago and Shaq Mason made them pay for it.

The discussion feels just like 2012:
"We need to put in the young qb who is inexperienced but has huge upside over the senior qb who knows the offense better. Cpj needs to focus on next year.”
