Weird Hypothetical

I can't think of any reason why he'd want to leave Clemson for Alabama, the NFL, or anywhere else. He's built an absolute juggernaut and seems to be having a blast doing it.

What does Alabama offer that Clemson doesn't, other than impossible-to-reach expectations and no bank of goodwill like he has at Clemson?

As far as NFL, I think he would know that isn't a good fit for him. Neither his personality nor his skill-set lend itself to the NFL head coach demands.

I personally get the impression Dabo is all in at Clemson. I don't think even Alabama calling will get him to leave. He might think of going to the NFL, but it would be a dumb move. Clemson and Dabo are a good fit and they have something special.

The closest it came to happening was when the Dolphins used the wildcat. It turned them from 1-15 the previous season into a playoff team the following season. However, by the time the playoffs came around the AFC defenses had figured out how to shut them down. After getting crushed by Baltimore, the wildcat disappeared and hasn't come back.

Huh? Wildcat has certainly not disappeared. Teams use it all the time in pro and college.

I think Dabo has shown great leadership and growth as a head coach. While he certainly enjoys the benefits of having paid players, pet projects, etc., he’s been to the playoffs 3 years in a row. That’s impressive. I wouldn’t bet against him as a head coach in the NFL, but, then again, I’d never bet for the Browns. They suck.

The problem with Dabo, or Saban for that matter, going to the NFL is it negates the biggest advantage they have. Every team in the NFL is allowed to pay their players.

Dabo is a big time recruiter first. There is almost zero value in having that in the NFL.

I think the Ravens are going to rebuild after this year and they have the ultimate QB for PJ's offense: LAMAR JACKSON. I think a NFL team could win with PJ's offense but they'd need to prepare and have three quarterbacks in the system as they will last as long as RB's do (three years).

I think what it would take would be for an NFL team to put in an option package where they could run it at random times and catch the opponent napping.

Problem with this is unless you run it a lot in practice and in games, you are never going to be good enough at it to make a positive difference.

Also the limitations on roster size would prevent you from having a specialized squad (Chinese Bandits) come in and run it.

It would be interesting as hell to watch though.

How to win in college:
  1. Have more money & academic freedoms than everyone else
  2. Hire a coach with a good scheme
  3. Hire the most expensive coordinators and an army of analysts
  4. Get the university to fund pet projects
  5. Get boosters to pay recruits

All of that goes out the window with the parity of the NFL

u forgot uniforms. cool uniforms.

I don't want the option in the NFL only because it's bad enough hearing dbags like Collingsworth and Buck talk about RPO like it's some brand new offense that's taking the league by storm. Can you imagine those guys talking about the option ad nauseum? That said - I've seen the Panthers run it as a change of pace with Cam, and the Saints are trying new things with Taysom Hill ( who btw seems built for the option) but as everyone else has said - it would never work as a primary offense.

I will never understand how one NFL franchise can be so utterly inept and clueless.
Look at how the Haslams(they own the browns) have done with coaching hires at Tennessee and that understanding is far clearer.

öööö the Haslams. A good Tennessee is bad for uga and good for us.

Not no but hell no. People mostly don't enjoy watching this offense and the NFL is all about Asses in Seats, first and foremost. Plus, the NFL has become so skewed towards protecting the QB and favoring the forward pass, it's asinine to run some sort of option offense where your QB is getting pounded as a runner and you're ignoring all the rules that favor the QB and WR.

Since it's Cleveland, taking the asinine approach is always possible, I suppose. :dunno:

Tune in to MNF tonight amd watch some of the plays that Mariota and the Titans are running. Shotgun read triple option where the 3rd option is a shovel pass to the tailback. Pretty sweet.

I'd love to see the TO tried and think it could work. The issue of keeping QB alive though is real.
