Tied for #6 nationally in turnovers gained

Mayhaps someone with stats knowhow could check, but how are we on sacks this year vs previous years?
Currently on pace to have the second-fewest sacks during the CPJ tenure. We have 13 sacks through 10 games. 2015 was the worst, with 14 sacks in 12 games.

TFL's aren't too good either. Only have 43 through 10 games, which puts us on pace for the third-lowest during CPJ's tenure, behind only 2017 (47 TFL's in 11 games) and 2015 (47 TFL's in 12 games).

2014: 20 sacks in 14 games
2015: 15 sacks in 12 games
2016: 18 sacks in 13 games
2017: 17 sacks in 11 games
2018: 13 sacks in 10 games

Slightly down. If we were to count "almost sacks" though?

These are most prominent sites for CFB stats. The first one gives you all the traditional stuff, per player, per team, year-to-year, etc. The second gives you some of those new-fangled Moneyball stats people like these days.

I am completely shell shocked this year. I have to watch the game on mute otherwise it is unbearable until we get a lead. I would love to see a win against uva and a good showing against ugag. If that happens then maybe we can feel somewhat optimistic about the D. If we pull another Dook (turnovers or not it looked like we were outmanned on O and D) against UVA then it will be tough to feel optimistic going into next year. Get to 7 wins b/f the bowl and I think we can have some optimism going forward.

Miami had 10 drives per the drive chart, but really only 8 as two drives were 0 play special teams fumbles.

TD (7 plays, 75 yards, 5:28 TOP ouch)
Fumble (Special Teams - T. Carpenter & A. Kerr)
Punt (7 plays, 14 yards)
Fumble (Dropped Snap - C. Thomas)
Punt (3 plays, -11 yards)
TD (3 plays, 30 yards after the rugby punt to N. Cottrell's back)
Fumble (Special Teams - Big Play Juanyeah)
Punt (3-and-out)
Punt (6 plays, 29 yards)
TD (15 plays, 95 yards, 4:33 - ouch)

Defensive stats are a benefactor of 3 turnovers in this game. Defense forced punts on 4 of 8 drives. Honestly, Miami only had 2 good drives (and they were monsters). Miami's offense really didn't do much outside of the bookend drives.

The defense did very well against Miami this year. And that's good.

Everyone else's defense has done very well against Miami as well this year, so that's a bit less good.

I worry about UVA. Bronco is no slouch. Guy knows how to coach, and specifically how to coach against the option.

I feel like the "more pressure" must be true, because if you had asked me I would have said we have at least as many sacks already as all of last year...
More pressure is there for sure and its creating poor throws which equals turnovers. I see our guys trying to get to the qb which is a positive to me. With Roof our linemen locked up with their linemen and then wrestled. It looked like they tried to occupy the linemen rather than attack the pocket and it frustrated me to no end.

Call me an optimist, but if this defense can keep opposing teams to their average, I think we can beat UVA (28 PPG, way less if you remove the 42, 45, 45 from Richmond, Ohio, and Liberty).

Can't you find a stat for qb hurries?

To me, this year's big differences feel like TFL and red zone defense. We are still porous between the 20s.

Well yeah, they hired him specifically to beat Paul Johnson.
