Which bowl game we get?

How many rematches (from a regular season meeting) have their been in bowl games?

Things have changed a lot in the conference. It's possible that FSU, Miami, and Virginia Tech will all fail to get bowl eligible this year.

Looks like FSU will almost certainly miss out, at 4-6 with games against BC and UF remaining. That will break a 36 year streak. Is theirs the longest?

Miami has to win one between Virginia Tech and Pitt. Virginia Tech has to beat both Miami and UVA...or if they only get one of those, look for them to schedule a makeup game for their cancellation with East Carolina. They have a 25 year streak to protect.

That may be easier said than done. It has to be an FBS win to count toward bowl eligibility for them - since one of their current four is over William and Mary. There aren't many FBS teams that are eligible to add a game. I'd have to look to see which teams have only 11 games on the schedule (or a 12 and a trip to Hawaii)... but I can't imagine that there are many. WVU comes to mind, but there's a good chance that they are going to be busy that week, and VPISU probably wouldn't beat them anyway. I bet VPISU is wishing that they had proactively rescheduled the ECU game for week 14, instead NCSU already picked them up that week to replace their cancelled game against WVU.

My guess is that VPISU isn't going bowling unless they beat both Miami and WVU.

That would be glorious. And you mean Miami and UVA, right?

Same situation we were in last year and obviously, we weren't able to make it happen. Hmm, let's see.

UCF? Lol. They will be short a game again, but will go to their conference championship and wouldn't do it, anyway.
UNC? Can't play them again.
Marshall could be a good candidate, but could VPI win?
Southern Miss? Maybe.
Liberty would have been a great option, but they already rescheduled their cancelled game.
App State?

FBS teams eligible to add a game week 14:

Not going to happen:
Central Florida - probably going to be busy
East Carolina - already added @NCSU
NC State - already added ECU
UNCCH - VPISU has already played them
Akron - already added @USCe
South Carolina- already added Akron

Actual possibilites:
Marshall (game against USCe was cancelled)
Southern Miss (game against App State was cancelled)

Hawaii exemption teams:
Navy - unlikely given that they have Army the next week
Rice - already has 13 games
Wyoming - possible
Nevada - possible
Utah State - could be busy that week
UNLV - possible

VPISU might could still find a game for that week, but any team that they are negotiating with would have a lot of leverage, as there are really only ~5 teams that meet the criteria that VPISU would need for bowl eligibility. They might have to pay a really pretty penny to get one of those teams to travel to Blacksburg. Just a wild guess, but I'd say either Marshall or Southern Miss would be the most likely candidates for them to get.

How great would it be for VPISU to have pay Southern Miss a ridiculous amount of money for an extra game and then lose to them at home?

I would love for Utah State to agree to a game, but only if it's in Logan. I'll go up to the game (after skiing of course) and watch the best team in Utah end the hokies chances at continuing the bowl streak. Would be glorious.
