Next Season

I am not so optimistic unless some new players emerge. Our best players on defense this year were seniors - DE, OLB, Safety. The outside blocking really loses experience with Stewart, Lynch and Searcy leaving. We have to break in a new QB. The trip to Temple and home with USF and UGA worries me that we will go 2-2 again outside of the conference. Home games with N.C. State, UNC, Virginia Tech and Pitt should yield 3 to 4 wins. Road trips to Durham, Charlottesville, Clemson and Miami led to 0-4 last time. Maybe we get 1 or 2 this time. I see us between 5-7 and 9-3 next year with 7-5 or 6-6 most likely.
It is what it is

Things will only be different if LJ or Graham wins the QB job and we do something to open up the offense more. Another year of 30+ QB Keepers per game will be just like this year, at best.

On D, CNW absolutely must improve our open-field tackling.

100%. I appreciated TO’s style but if TO is our starting QB next year I’m going to consider my Saturdays wide open. Offensively I don’t care what style offense we run but we HAVE to have some form of passing game that needs to be somewhat respected. What’s happened the last two years is unacceptable. Decent defensive teams know they can load the box, leave a 5-10 yard cushion in “man” coverage on the outside receivers and immediately release that DB on the non play side since we literally never “play action” to the side opposite of Taquans roll out. the playside DB still has 5-10 yards of cushion to decide if he’s in second level run support or pass defense. It’s pathetic. We must have a QB who can throw. I also think that in obvious passing situations we should incorporate some shotgun or pistol sets. We’re not fooling anybody.

Defensively - öööö working on any schemes. Spend 100% of time working on tackling. The last two weeks have been abysmal. We were not out of position much in the first half but always missed the first and sometimes second chance at tackling the ball carrier.

Can Oliver play A or B back? Can JT play WR in addition to returning kicks. We need to maximize the playmakers we have.
We definitely need a QB that can throw the football. Our cuurent QB cannot throw or run the option but he must look fantastic in practice.
The bowl game should be focused on preparing for next season.

Also, next season starts this week as we prepare for our bowl game. I hope cpj plays Oliver at the very least after the first possession for the remainder of the game.
I want Quon to get the opening and victory series then play TO first half and JG 2nd half. Let's see what we have next year and excite people

Where does JG stand in terms of his red shirt? I feel like today was game 4 since Paul decided to send JG in for a single play against someone earlier this year after TO’s helmet came off and TM was injured instead of calling a time out and preserving JG’s shirt. Anyways.

How about coaching staff - particularly on O?

Candento needs to go. QB and Bbacks were a mess all year.

Speed needs to go, too. ST...until the last maybe 2 games have been atrocious.

Those are the easiest. I’d say our fav boy Sewek but we know the answer there.

People should read this post. Stay grounded.

I do like the idea of Juanyeh (or is it Juan-tay?) playing WR. Apparently he wants to play safety and the coaches like him there, but he just looks like a wideout to me. Does he not have the hands?

Next season, Lucas will throw for 200 yds and rush for 100 yds per game, on the way to a playoff birth.

Biggest losses on defense:
ASA
Malik Rivera
KCH

Biggest returning on def:
Adams
Curry
Thomas

Biggest losses on off:

Biggest returners on off:

Kenny cooper
Benson

We gotta have him on defense, IMO.

Graham has appeared in 3 games, so the shirt is safe.

Oliver will be much better executing the run offense next year versus this year! He is also a flat out football player, the kind we need more of. I think he will throw as well as Navy does and accordingly could be an effective quarterback.

But our WR's are bad. Our LB's are bad. Our linemen are undersized and we never have enough of them on defense.
Our DE's are way undersized for the 3-4.
PJ refuses to recruit enough players so we never have enough stout athletes for Special Teams and accordingly, our ST is REALLY BAD
Our DB's are not big and athletic enough to compete with the big boys.
And yes, our A backs returning aren't very good, although we may have enough B Backs to put one at A back regularly which would really help.

If you watched UGA and Clemson, they just sat back, could not be moved and simply grabbed every B Back coming up the middle for a 2 to 3 yard gain. Not good enough and I don't see us gaining another 30 pounds each. I see 8-4 at best next season but more likely to be 7-5 again.

Dolphus is too damn big not to step up next season.

Camp and Carter can step it up too

I think you and most are focusing on TM's poor passing record as a personal failure; in many cases it was a pass blocking failure, not a pass throwing failure. Yeah TM isn't a great passer, but with protection he's serviceable. I'll bet TO will be similar. It's completely unrealistic not to mention blocking in a rant about a poor passing game.

offense - OL should be good but struggled at times this year. Hit the weight room. QB - hopefully we read better - I think we will. ABacks - blocking is biggest concern. Bback - come on Benson. `Wide receivers - Carter could be a player.

defense - dline - Adams was one of best players on team at end of year. UGA did not push him around. Shows size matters. Will miss the Saint - played well - UGA pushed him around but great season. LBs can't be any worse and really the key. There are 4 of them which is almost 40% of defense and have to see improvement - Scary. Db's Carpenter Swilling and Kerr are not that bad. Thomas looks like he should be able to play somewhere.
