Bowl/conference tie-in's

Based on Sun Bowl comments on BC and Gator/Music city Bowl comments on Miami.... That leaves one 9-3 team and Pitt to round out the four tier 1 bowls.... We had a shot at a tier 1 bowl but the game was over by second qtr last Saturday.. Miami upset Pitt so it looks like they get the tier 1 and we will get either Military or Indy depending on VT outcome this year... It appearance military would take a 6-6 VT over a 7-5 GT because VT fans travel better than GT.

No way in heck GT goes to a Tier 1 Bowl after not even showing up in Athens. Not going to happen. You can take that to the bank. They will be among the least desirable selections at 7 wins because any chance of the fans showing up in numbers died somewhere around the 2nd Qtr in Athens. It will be Annapolis if we are lucky and otherwise Shreveport or maybe even Detroit. Annapolis might get 5k fans. The other two will get less than 2k.

Best Guess
  1. Orange Bowl-Clemson
  2. Camping World–Syracuse
  3. Pinstripe-Pittsburgh
  4. Sun–Boston College
  5. Belk–NC State
  6. Music City–Miami
  7. Military–Georgia Tech or Virginia Tech (if it qualifies)
  8. Independence–Duke or Georgia Tech
  9. Quick Lane–Virginia
  10. Dallas or Gasparilla–Wake Forest or Virginia
  11. Birmingham–Wake Forest or Virginia Tech

Is the Birmingham Bowl played at Legion Field?

If it's simply down to 'fans', just how many 'Miami' fans are going to Nashville...…...Seriously!? Yeah, Miami beat Pitt. So what. You put Tech there against Auburn...….guaranteed sellout!

we will get the Canned Food drive bowl at Tara Stadium in Clayton County. Winning team gets a bag of canned goods, no labels.

Tech fans are not gonna travel to a bowl no matter where it is or who its against. Did you see the crowds at BDS this year?

I can't see how it's that big. Do you really care where we play? After today's performance I'd almost prefer we play down the ladder to give us a better chance of a win. That's the bruise talking, but man there's nothing worse than finishing the season with consecutive losses, especially after building some good momentum.

PS. CPJ's finished with consecutive losses 5 times in 10 seasons (2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017). That's a pretty poor record, I think.
Not that poor when you consider Georgia is always our last regular season game and we are 3-15 over the last 18. Interesting term momentum. 2008 and 2009 and even then lost to Georgia in 2009. Then went to Kansas.

Order of preference:
Belk Bowl
Music City Bowl
Military Bowl

Therefore, we are a lock for Detroit.

Sunday can't get here soon enough, so we actually know where we're going. It's appalling that fan speculation on message boards is actually more credible and informed than what gets published on sports websites. At least the fans put some thought into stuff like bowl selection politics, previous bowl history, rematches, etc. The sports sites might as well be pulling names out of a hat.

Do division/conference standings have any say in the matter (weren't we 2nd in the Coastal?) or are we just gonna get hosed because of overall record?

I think the only rule they have to follow is a 6-6 team can't jump an 8-4 team. And Pitt can't fall below the Sun Bowl because they are a division champion. Otherwise, they can just base it on an attractive matchup, geography, fan base, whatever.

I think Shreveport is our worst case at this point.

Seems like a particularly bad year for this stuff, because everybody in the conference that's bowl eligible (other than Clemson, Syracuse, and Pitt) has 4 conference wins +- 1. Just about everybody can go anywhere (which hasn't worked out well for us, historically). Turns out that we really screwed ourselves with that Pitt game - win that one and we'd have separated ourselves from the pack a little more, and gotten into the championship game...

I read a tweet earlier today that said the Music City Bowl will NOT be taking an ACC team this year. Will be Big-10.

In this thread:

It will suck if UVA gets the Belk Bowl over us, given that we beat them.
