Monken Poll

Would a Monken hire be acceptable to you?

If we are going to keep the 3O, then sure. Although there are other criteria that I would hope would be factored in WAY ahead of scheme.
 
To me Monken is the clear choice. The offense is not our problem and Monken would bring more drive to the HC spot. He still has things to prove and willing to go through the grind to do it. I think moving away from the offense is a mistake.

I get the mindset, but after 11 years with the triple option, how else do you explain bad defenses every single year? Did every single coordinator suck at their job, or did the offense one way or another sap the defense of its potential? I've really enjoyed Paul and his offense and I'm not at all opposed to coming back to it in the future, but until the day comes that one of his proteges is every bit the coach PJ was in his prime, there's no incentive to go that way. We need the best overall coach we can get, not settle and hope an offensive scheme can keep us relevant. That's just my 2 cents though.

CPJ was HC at Southern and that didn't translate to a plus in recruiting.

There's not much more you can do at West Point other than that. If you want to compete for conference championships, major bowl games, and possibly more, Monken will make the same decision that CPJ made.

Definitely 'going on three'. Army should smoke Navy this year.

But if GT doesn't call on Monken, I wonder if anyone else will?

Has anybody been following Tennessee or USCe? You can't beat UGA with the "best available" coach. You either need a HoF coach or a gimmick.

I'm guessing you think Tony Elliot has these credentials??? Vs someone who has actually coached teams to victory in multiple environments that are relatable to GT for different reasons???

I personally want to stick with a similar scheme, but I'm not convinced that if adaption is needed that Monken will do it. Maybe I'm projecting CPJ onto him (as I know monken has done some odd formations at Army), but Bohannon seemed like he was the guy trying out more wrinkles. (iirc, he was the reason we ran some pistol in 12)
 
How old is Monken? CPJ is 61 and about worn out. I want not only a smart, intelligent and wise new head coach, but one that is younger with a lot of energy and drive, not one ready to retire soon. I like what Monken has done at Army, and that was no accident.

He's the same age PJ was when he arrived at GT.

I'm like the opposite of most people, I think. I seriously enjoy games where we don't attempt a pass. I'd be really excited for Monken to come here for that reason, because I've seen him do it, and in big games too. The aforementioned victory over UF comes to mind.

I tell ya what I never want to see a Georgia Tech offense do ever again in my entire life, though, is complete a pass behind the LOS. Even on some gadget stuff. We just look awful at that every single time, even before CPJ. If we get a coach who isn't going to pound the öööö out of the ball like we've never seen before, I really hope the guy we get is our Dabo who can recruit the players we need to do anything else. And even still, if that guy ever calls a freaking bubble screen I'm pretty sure I'm gonna lose it.
