What am I missing here? Johnson was doing great at Navy also, heck no I don't want the same crap again. I think it hurts our recruiting and the more athletic and better coached teams learn a way to stop or at least slow it down. Only way I would be fine with it is if we have QB's that throw and of course Johnson could not get those so why would anyone else?

I'm like the opposite of most people, I think. I seriously enjoy games where we don't attempt a pass. I'd be really excited for Monken to come here for that reason, because I've seen him do it, and in big games too. The aforementioned victory over UF comes to mind.

I tell ya what I never want to see a Georgia Tech offense do ever again in my entire life, though, is complete a pass behind the LOS. Even on some gadget stuff. We just look awful at that every single time, even before CPJ. If we get a coach who isn't going to pound the öööö out of the ball like we've never seen before, I really hope the guy we get is our Dabo who can recruit the players we need to do anything else. And even still, if that guy ever calls a freaking bubble screen I'm pretty sure I'm gonna lose it.

I'm not stuck on a particular way of doing it, but CPJ's playbook felt very limited the last 2 years. That's more what I'm trying to avoid. I think a guy who passes enough to get over the stigma would be beneficial, but as long as it works I'm fine with either extreme.

How old is Monken? CPJ is 61 and about worn out. I want not only a smart, intelligent and wise new head coach, but one that is younger with a lot of energy and drive, not one ready to retire soon. I like what Monken has done at Army, and that was no accident.
Definitely looks like he has the energy and drive to still be successful.

Thank you for posting this. While it looks like Monken still relies pretty heavily on running the ball out of the flexbone, this was really interesting to read:

Throughout last season, the Black Knights seemed to unveil at least one unexpected look each week, with pistol formations, three-wide receiver sets, the T-formation, and even running RPOs from the flexbone, all included to throw off their opponents.

Sounds like somebody prepared to adapt and innovate to keep opponents off balance. I'd be more than happy with Jeff Monken,

Paul has many folks believing that without some great equalizer, the Triple Option, that we simply can't compete with the ugags and Clemson's of the world. Tell me that's not the reason why people are bringing up Monken and other proteges. Would you even consider them if they weren't running the triple option? If the answer is no, then that's not the next coach we want for our program.

Yes I would consider the coach who took Army to a top 25 ranking, coached at GT and never missed the semifinals at GA southern regardless of offense. The fact that he runs the offense we do is a ööööing bonus.

I think Jeff Monken could be successful at Tech. I also think Scott Satterfield could be successful at Tech. Both hires would be a good fit for the current players on scholarship, and both seem to include some wrinkles that are outside of the box of what CPJ was running. I've "watched the tape" and like what I see out of both offenses. Can they recruit? That's the big unknown.

You misspelled the rest of the teams in the ACC and SEC east.

Thats what has me convinced that we cant compete with them playing conventionally. It doesnt have to be 3O, but we cant go Gailey conventional again.

There is no way this poll actually skews 50/50.

The other thing to think about- Would Jeff be able to recruit as good as Paul?

This is where I think he could be an improvement on CPJ. If he embraced recruiting, I think we could get that extra game or two this year. Brad Stewart has got heart, but we should have been able to pull in better receivers than him. Brad should have been a jr/sr starter, and that is failure of cpj’s recruiting abilities.

I don't think you'll get much disagreement from most people on this board. Nobody want's Gailey and a boring ass offense again.

The real point of contention I think a lot of people have with the 3O is what exactly is causing the awful recruiting? Was it Paul or was it the 3O scaring off recruits? It's clearly a bit of both, but the 3O may be impactful enough to harm the entire program and force our hand on trying something new. I'd be all for Leach, despite how unrealistic the hire may be for a GT administration that has been hit heavily by poor representation from within over the last year.
