Wes Durham handicapping GT

There’s nothing wrong with the offense other than when you get a mediocre/bad quarterback like Taquon. The only thing wrong with the option is all the outside noise.

Things were somewhat different when Nebraska ran it, but even then it was killed by Miami’s superior athletes.
Not before Nebraska had the incredible Tommy Frazier years in the 90s, which included arguably one of the greatest teams of all time.

If we are going to play, we should play to win.

Bingo. Is Prez Bud awake? Don't see the GT admin buying into this as they just seem to tolerate athletics or are indifferent to it.

I think the school caring (more) matters to future success more so which offense the new coach is going to run.

He points out that strong academic institutions do not face the obstacles we face because they all have a LIBERAL ARTS CURRICULUM available to student athletes. Comparisons of us to Notre Dame, Stanford, Duke, Northwestern, etc are nonsensical. Kids at those schools can literally create their own majors whereas at GT we only have BS degrees which require calculus and CS.

Add to this the fact that to enter GT you have take 4 years of math. HS athletes getting recruited by factory schools only need 3 years of math, get the senior year off to focus on football. The good athlete borderline student needs to make the decision at the end of his junior year whether or not he is even going to be eligible for us to recruit. Some of these could be assisted once in school to be students, but we don't get the chance because of a decision they made at age 17 or younger.

We should hire Monken. It's a no-brainer. Only a complete moron would want to scrap the triple option. Most people's opinions of the team are based on personality problems with CPJ. Personality problems Monken does not have.

We have an identity now. Let's run WITH it. Not away from it.

See: Wisconsin for evidence of building an identity and running with it

See: Nebraska for evidence of building an identity and running from it.

Only people that played in the option think it's a good system. Some that never even played football think it's the perfect option.

If we had a QB who could complete 60% of his passes this season, we win 9 or 10 games

If we had a coach that would dedicate any time to practicing throwing, throwing mechanics, and a blitz pickup we could win some ACC Championships and compete for NCs. Except for the past 10 years, we've attempted to compete without any of that.

And this right here is what we fight as a fanbase. A created sense of us vs them by washed up athletes vs nerds to preserve some semblance of superiority in their otherwise pathetic lives. Keep posting. It’s a great look for you. I’ve played football. It was not an option system I don’t think the option is perfect. I’m not alone.

And I’m not gonna restrict it to nerds vs footballers because it was more than that and it was obvious in 2010 Vad’s years and Taquons years. It was obviously a case of those who could handle their football buds asking them about option ball and those that couldn’t. Sad. Weak. But we all saw it on the field.

Isn't that what Gailey and O'leary did?? Where's the trophy? I don't remember those ACC Championships for some reason.

What’s your point? Ignore passing?

My point is there is much more to it than what you posted. We had more success with ACC Championships with the TO than with coaches who did what you said. I am ok with going to some other offense; but I am not expecting a National Championship or Playoff invite unless we make some serious structural changes to the program.

I’m confused by your animosity. If I came off as offensive, I apologize. It was supposed to be a silly nonsequitur to highlight how silly it all is.
I’m not offended I’m frustrated. Frustrated that you and others like you are so obvious with your condescension then get taken aback when you’re called on it.

As much as any O system, we need some leadership that will have the team ready to go from TML.

Recently, we have to often not come out of the gate ready to go.

If we had a defense not ranked in the bottom 90 we probably win more too. Our offense isn't the reason we can't recruit better on defense.
