680 reporting Whisenhunt offered the job

Well. TS is in New York today for the CFB Hall of Fame dinner. I don't think it's a stretch to think that while he's up there he will interview Monken. Maybe this whole KW thing is just a smoke screen to lower expectations among the Tech fan base that when Monken is announced as HC after the Army-Navy game, the reaction will be relief and excitement instead of anger. Do you think TS is that smart?

I think you’re over thinking it

Nailed it. And I'm not some KW fanboy here - but the posters on here pretending that Collins and Elliot are stone cold locks to be great HC's are just a bit optimistic in their handicapping. Why don't we let our team do their interviews, complete their due diligence, and rely upon their years of full-time experience in collegiate athletics to make the right decision, versus a bunch of alums behind their keyboards.

I think part of the reaction to Whisenhunt is that the rumors have made it seem like we aren't going to do due diligence and are just jumping on the first coach.

This article (repost from the other thread) probably helps describe what he would do: https://www.sbnation.com/college-fo...-coaching-search-louisville-appalachian-state

And when you click the "Brand of Fun" link in the article, you get this article about Collins' recruiting techniques. Or you can read about how he seeks to motivate players in this article. also linked in the original article. Clearly he knows how to work hard to stay relevent with young players and he's willing to put himself out there to do it.

Okay. I’m intrigued by the Collins hire now. I can get behind this one.

Like it or not, recruiting the modern day HS athlete requires this type of approach. Unfortunately, the old school approach, though perhaps superior from a pure Xs and Os perspective, is not enough to lure the majority of players.

I loved PJ. I didn’t want him to retire. But I am starting to believe there is a reason his offense works better at the academies and lower division colleges.

(Disclaimer - This comes from someone who played college football at one such “lower division college”. We ran an option offense and played in the national championship game twice during my four years...)

Unfortunately this sounds like what happened in the basketball coach process. We thought we had Drew locked up then the Vanderbilt position opened up.

We did and then Vandy offered him a much, much higher amount to coach and GT bowed out.

Exactly, rumors - from people who don't have any real info on the actual process whatsoever. Posting on fan message boards in their spare time. In fact, there is no real information that says our guys are doing anything but going about a responsible process.

And here we are.

And not a single darn person has mentioned that Brian Van Gorder is available.
Nor Bobby Petrino - experienced, innovative as TS wanted, knows Atlanta and how to ride a scooter (kind of)

I doubt we're looking at another 3O coach.

I'm in the minority that would be fine with Elliott, Collins, or Whisenhunt. My preferences are in that order.

You know, BVG has won the Broyles Award. Geoff Collins was nominated three times but never won.

So while he's deciding, other people are being hired. Taking good candidates off the board.

Don't disagree here. IF this rumor were true, which I don't believe it because Akinji said it's not, but IF it were true, why would a candidate need 48 hours to decide? Either you want the job or not, let's make a decision and get to recruiting.

Right, if a candidate needs 48 hours to make a decision then we should probably tell him thanks for your time and move on.

Who? Where? With Colorado zeroed in on Mel Tucker, Kansas State is the only other vacancy and I don't think our targets are in the running there.

Can't help but post this for you clowns to chew on. Anyone, and I mean anyone who is pissed off about potentially having Ken Whisenhunt as the next GT head coach over Satterfield, Tony Elliot, any other 3O coach not named Johnson, or even Geoff Collins is a ööööing dumbass. Like next level stupid.

Whisenhunt isn't Gailey. Go listen to the guy sometime. He clearly has a charisma about him that is needed as a Head Coach and potential recruiter. He learned under Bill Cowher!!! who is arguably one of the top 5 coaches in the last 25 years in professional football! He helped develop Ben Rothlisberger AND Phillip Rivers. In fact Rivers under Whisenhunt is having one of his better career years. This is not like Chan Gailey. NFL QB's couldn't stand Gailey most notably Troy Aikman who ultimately got Gailey fired from Dallas. We should be lucky as hell we could get the Whiz!

You guys want to öööö on a GT connected coach at the highest level for a head coach at an FCS school, a young OC at Clemson who hasn't done öööö, and a recent head coach at a mid major? If Collins turns out to be our coach I will not be disappointed, but all of you poo pooing Ken Whisenhunt are öööö tards of the highest level. This is in a nut shell why I stopped posting over here because the IQ of the average fan on Stingtalk is level pathetic. You guys are still funny, and I enjoy reading on occasion but anyone up in arms against the Whiz is next level stupid.
Had no idea we were in the nfl. I thought we had to recruit players and coach college football at GT. Thanks for bringing your brains back to ST. :ughdance:
